As his mouth neared mine once again, there was suddenly a pounding knock on the door beside us. We froze, and a scowl quickly appeared on Jotaro's red face.

"Who the hell is it?!" He roared, a low growl sounding as we awaited a response.

"Jotaro, Y/n," Mama's voice suddenly spoke, quivering with each word.

Jotaro's scowl disappeared immediately as he hurried toward the door. He swung it open to see her trembling and staring ahead with wide eyes.

"So, you see," She began. I slowly walked behind Jotaro, watching her worriedly. "Someone broke in a-and now everyone's passed out on the floor, and-"

"What?" Jotaro narrowed his eyes down the long hallway that separated our room from the festivities. "Who?"

"I don't know!" She cried. "But what do I do? Papa is gone! I think someone might have been after him!"

I gasped, recalling the jolly old man shed called "Papa." His bright, mischievous smile so friendly and harmless. Who would want to hurt him?

Jotaro glanced my way, gritting his teeth as he looked from me to the hall. He was contemplating whether he should've gone or not. Would he be able to make it in his current state? Would he come back in time before the consequences for restraining his rut began?

"Go," I decided for him. Even though I felt as though I'd burst. Even though I knew he probably wouldn't make it back to me in time... I couldn't let that harmless man be harmed.

Looking into my determined stare, he hesitated not a moment longer before sprinting down the hallway.

"Mama," I quietly called, touching her arm gently as she looked up at me with a quivering lip and teary eyes. "Come inside."

I led her through the door, slowly shutting it behind me before bringing her to the bed. She didn't resist, nor did she say a word.

"Did you... see what happened?" I asked slowly. I looked into her eyes, and she seemed to return the contact, but she wasn't there. She still said nothing. She didn't move.

"Mama...? What is it? Why are you so frightened?" I asked, beginning to worry more and more with every silent second. "Jotaro will find him, and the person responsible will-"

"No," She mumbled. "Jotaro won't make it back... because Papa's already gone."

My eyes widened, and my head drew back slightly in surprise. "What?"

"Papa's gone."

"What do you mean?" I asked, a bit louder this time as though she couldn't hear me. She winced, her eyes closing and a tear slowly slipping down her cheek.

"They killed him," She mumbled, her voice breaking as she trembled. "They killed Papa."

I froze.

Even my blood was rendered freezing cold. Even amid a great heat, I was frozen.

I had only seen him once. I had only spoken to him for less than a minute. Yet... I felt so horribly awful.

Someone I could've gotten to know. Someone I could've laughed and joked with. Someone I could call "Grampa..."

...was dead?
