Connor

My day started really well until June's presence came to ruin everything. We walk in the streets of California with two policemen at our feet. Direction the hairdressing salon. It must be several months since I last set foot outside the reformatory and frankly I missed it. Since the beginning of the journey she is silent and concentrated on the buildings of Los Angeles, she didn't speak to me since the beginning of the morning, in the bathroom.

I'm not stupid of course and I can see that she is still confused by my words. It was purely ironic though. It's true that I never made any sexual reference with her but now that we're friends she'll have to get used to it and besides I was laughing; it was a more indecent way of saying that she has beautiful eyes.

I give her a quick glance and see that she's not at all ready to start a conversation. It's the same for me, but lately I've found a new way to overcome my sickly pride.

I discreetly take my phone out of my pocket, the policemen don't seem to know that I have it and so much the better. I saw June take it too so she'll have to be careful.

« Why don't you talk to me ? »

On the corner of my eye, I see her put a hand in the pocket of her jeans; because yes, today she has finally separated from her jogging suits. Then she take a quick look behind her, towards the guards, before turning on back.

« You're the one who's not talking to me. »

Is she serious? I laugh but not normally, it's more of a laugh of frustration. It catches her attention and our eyes meet, I give her a questioning look and I can almost see a small smile stretching her pink lips.

"What are you laughing about?" She sighs quietly.

"Did I make you mad earlier?" I ask.

"No.. Well a little, or rather, it was awkward." She stutters. I can't help but smile, she's too funny when she's embarrassed. I hope she knows it was wrong?

"I was joking when I said that, it was to throw you off. Trust me I prefer girls with a well built body.." I cut off as I realized what I was saying. Oh fuck, I'm such an idiot.

We stare at each other for a while, his gaze is cold. Yeah I can understand this time, it's definitely a reason to slap me. I indirectly insinuated that she was not good and honestly I said it by accident because yes, it's true that she has not a lot of shape but she is still a little... That's it. I'm a big jerk, I make girls complex.

The rest of the journey is done in the same silence as at the beginning. I screwed up. When we arrive at the barber shop, the policemen ask us to decide who will go first and without even bothering to discuss with me, June designates herself.

She's still a bitch.

Fortunately, it doesn't take much time because she only cuts her tips. From afar, I watch the hairdresser touch her hair that she had arranged in the morning. He ruffles them indirectly but to him, she says nothing! She still hates me for sure. Or maybe I'm the one who's too stupid.. Yeah, I'm going for the latter.

When it's my turn, I choose to cut only the tips as well as her. I don't want to arrive at the reformatory and have Tyler and Bianca laughing at me, no thanks.
