On the first day of their senior year, Ellie, Elena, Caroline, Matt, and Bonnie are still reeling from recent events, while Tyler seems to be enjoying everything a little too much. Damon is annoyed by a new house heist, and everyone is surprised by the arrival of a new student in Alaric's history class. Matt asks Bonnie for help when he realises he made a serious mistake. Meanwhile, Stefan continues to carry out his latest assignment from Klaus.
Later, Ellie lay in bed, eyes wide open. All she seems to do is think about Stefan...
Her alarm went off, and she turned it off. She signed and got out of bed.
She walked over to her mirror, turning on the lamp, and pulled her hair away from her neck, seeing the marks from when she was attacked.
She shook her head and covered it with some makeup. She gets ready to train with Ric.

She walked out of her bedroom, seeing Ric.
"Good morning."
He held up his hand.
Later, Alaric and Ellie were in the woods, and Ric had set up a dummy...
He punched it in the middle of its chest.
"The pressure of your punch ejects the stakes." He tells her.
"Sounds easy enough."
She wore a weapon on her sleeve and punched the dummy.
"That's weird."
She tried again.
"It must be jammed or something."
"You're not strong enough. Better start lifting some weights. Some meat on those bones." He said.
"Thank you for not sugarcoating it."
"You know what this is?" He asked, holding some sort of grenade.
"Vervain grenade. I've used one or two before."
"Then you know the element of surprise is your only advantage when it comes to a vampire." He pulls the safety cap off and tosses it to Ellie.
She caught it.
"Surprise." He said.
"Oh, my God."
She tossed it into the air, and it exploded.
"This isn't a joke to me, Ric."
"You think I'm joking? Vampires take whatever they want. They hurt whoever they want. And do it without remorse. It's their nature."
