Alaric finds an unexpected ally to guide him on his dangerous new path, while Damon and Meredith try to figure out what their next move should be. At the schools 1920's Decade Dance, Bonnie asks Jamie to go with her and, at Caroline's suggestion, Ellie asks Stefan to be her date. Caroline is pleasantly surprised when Tyler shows up at the dance determined to sweep her off her feet, but Klaus does his best to come between them. The dance takes a deadly turn when Damon and Stefan realise they need the help of Matt, Jeremy and especially Bonnie to undo a spell that could prove devastating for everyone.

Esther, walked in.
"What took you so long?"
"Alaric didn't want to hand over the stake. Luckily, I'm quite the charmer." She said, holding up the remaining stake.
"That's it?"
"The last of the white oak stakes that can kill us. Do you want to do the honours, or shall I?" She asked.
He took the remaining stake and threw it into the fireplace.
"Well, that's that, then." She says, smiling.
"Pack your bags. We're leaving."
"Today?" She asked.
"Why not? There's nothing keeping us here. We'll grab the doppelgänger and be off by sunset."
"Tonight's the decade dance." She tells him.
"So?"
"I'm head of the committee. We have to go." She said.
"I'm not going to any dance."
"Caroline will be there." She tells him.
"That means nothing to me."

"Okay, fine. One last hurrah."

Later, Damon was on the phone to Ric...
Damon: "Where have you been? I've been calling you all day."
Ric: "Yeah, sorry about that. I just needed to get my head together."
Damon: "I take it Rebekah got the stake?"
Ric: "I don't know. I woke up alone. Uh, there's no sign of it."
Damon: "Lovely. What now?"
Ric: "I think I need to get out of town. You know, somewhere secluded. I keep blacking out. I'm still a threat to everyone, Damon."
Damon: "I don't know if now's the best time for you to be going on a spirit quest, Ric."
Ric: "Ah, just for a couple of days. I'm stocked up on Bonnie's herb. I should be fine. Uh, I gotta go."
