Klaus puts a plan in motion that will give him even more power, but even with the unwilling participation of werewolf Ray Sutton, things don't go exactly as Klaus had planned. Damon and Alaric reluctantly go along with Ellie's new strategy to find Stefan, leading Damon into a dangerous fight with an unexpected enemy. Jeremy turns to Matt for help as he continues to try to understand what the ghosts from his past want from him. "Just can't stay away, huh?"
Ellie walked over to him.
"You've been dodging my calls." She says.
"Yeah, busy day, you know? Dead fake girlfriend and all."
"Why didn't you tell us?" She asked.
"Oh, what was I supposed to say, Ellie? Happy Birthday. Your boyfriend killed Andie. Cake?"
"He called me, Damon." She says.
"What?"
"Stefan called me last night." She tells him.
"Well, what did he say?"
"He didn't say anything. But I know it was him." She signed. "I asked Sheriff Forbes if she would kindly trace the call's origin. It came from Tennessee."
"He's binge-drinking on the country folk. We went through this last night. Stefan's gone, Ellie. And I don't mean geographically."
"I don't believe that. If he was gone, he wouldn't have called."

She signed and left his bedroom.
Later, Alaric rolled up out of bed, hearing a banging on his front door...
"Go away, Damon." He says.
The person kept knocking.
"All right!" He shouted, swinging the door open.
"Hi."
"Oh. Sorry, Ellie. You're not who I expected." He said, fastening his pants.
"I need you to tell me what you know about Stefan and Tennessee."
"Did you miss the part where I checked out of all this?" He asked, frowning softly at her.
"Come on, Ric. You know I know you, right? Whatever Damon knows, you know."
He put on a shirt.
"Then you should ask Damon." He tells her.
"When is Damon ever in the mood to help? He isn't gonna help me."
