With help from, Elena, Ellie, and Bonnie, Alaric tries to decipher the meaning behind his recent discovery. Stefan and Ellie discuss a plan. Elena, Ellie, and Rebekah engage in a mean-girl power struggle, until Rebekah finally reveals some of her family's ancient secrets and the violent past she shared with Klaus and Elijah. Damon tries a reckless new approach to make a breakthrough with Stefan, and they're both surprised by an unlikely ally.
Later, Alaric was taking Ellie and Elena to the cave...
"Where did you go early this morning?" Elena asked.
Ellie couldn't exactly tell her that she went to speak to Stefan about a plan to get Klaus to give him his freedom back.
They had a pretty decent plan between them. Stefan seemed proud. Stefan's still gonna act like a total dick, which he partly was.
"For a run." Ellie smiled.
"So the Lockwoods have no idea these tunnels are underneath their property?" Elena asked.
Ellie shone the light.
"Yeah. Ellie, be careful where you shine that thing. Bats hate the light." Said Alaric.
Ellie froze in her position and stared at Ric.
"What?" Ellie asked.
"Ellie. Elena."
Ellie spun around and punched the person in the nose.
"Ow!" Damon says, groaning.
"That's what you get for sneaking up on me. Can we make this quick? I've got other things to do." Ellie said.
"Just ignore him. That's what I do." Ric tells Ellie.
"You really can't get in?" Elena asked.
"No, it seems even the ancient Lockwoods were anti-vampire." Damon says.
"What do you mean, ancient?" Asked Ellie.
"See for yourselves. This is as far as I go." Damon says.
Ellie and Elena stepped into the cave with Ric.
"Whoa." Ellie said, shining the light on the drawings.
"What is all this?" Asked Elena.
"Far as I can tell, it's a story. In simple archaeological terms, it's a really, really old story. That right there is a moon cycle. A man. A wolf."
"A werewolf." Elena said.
"Yeah. It's the Lockwood Diaries. Pictionary-style." Said Damon.
"I don't understand. I thought the Lockwoods came here with the original founders in the 1860s." Ellie says.
"Well, maybe the Lockwoods did. But according to this wall, these werewolves have been here a lot longer than that." Ric tells them.
"Well, how long is long?"
