I know Halloween is still far away, but I had to.

-As werewolves, in this AU Giyuu and Shinobu live deep in the woods, in a small cottage they call home. Their son, Hayato, is also a werewolf, but he's just a pup.

-Their life can be quite hectic sometimes, with the family needing to hunt to get their food.

-He'd never admit it, but when he found out Shinobu was pregnant he became a little paranoid.

-His own family had been killed by hunters along with Shinobu's sister. Now he would have to protect his child, and he'd be dead before he let a hunter touch his son.

-Giyuu spent much of the pregnancy in the woods, bringing home as much meat, berries, mushrooms and flowers as he could.

-Some of this food had to be preserved in salt, smuggled by other werewolves who had managed to live with humans. Because there was simply too much food to eat.

-With how he was acting, you would think he was the one giving birth.

-Shinobu apreaciated the effort, of course... But she was also going a little mad with how restless her mate was.

-The day their son was born, Giyuu was running about as usual, when in his wolf form, he heard her screaming in pain. He stood up from a hunting crouch, startling the sparrow he'd been stalking.

-When Giyuu got back to the cottage, he had sticks and leaves stuck on him and he was out of breath.

-He assisted the labor as much as he could while silently panicking.

-When their son was finally born, he could do nothing but watch in amazement as Shinobu held the baby.

-As a werewolf, Giyuu was always careful to not leave tracks of himself when he went out.

-But as a father, he was even more careful. He began Covering the tracks and taking extra long routes in an effort that if someone did catch trail, they would have to go a long way till they found their home.

-When their son was a toddler, he transformed in to his wolf form when he threw his fits.

-Oddly enough, the only way to calm him down was for Giyuu to go in to wolf form too and try to hadle him.

-Giyuu would take their son out with him at night, showing him the forest and the moon. He held him in his arms and watched as he took in the world.

-He never thought he deserved to have his family. He believed he was too damaged. Despite all of that, his son saw nothing wrong with him.

-He was so young, and frail, and he trusted Giyuu with his life.

-When the pup first noticed the scars Giyuu had from many different hunts and escapes from hunters, he thought He'd be terrified. Instead, the boy was curious and reached to touch them.

-He was hesitant at first, but the innocent eyes of his child convinced his body to stay still.

-He touched a scar on his left arm and his eyes shone with wonder. Giyuu wanted to cry in that moment.

-This child, this little werewolf could not see any fault in his scars.

-That's what made his first hunt so horrifying.

Giyuu had wanted to put off Hayato's first hunt for as long as he could. Giyuu knew full well how dangerous the forest was, he couldn't protect Hayato from every trap and every animal that resided in the shadows of the tall pine trees that made Giyuu feel small. But, he couldn't deny the fact that Hayato was going to have to fend for himself one day. Giyuu couldn't promise his son that he'd be there forever. Every time Giyuu hunted, he was scared. He was scared that he'd miss his shot, that he'd leave his mate and pup hungry, or that a hunter would get him, and he'd never see his family again.
