I'm sorry, I haven't had much motivation to write these past few weeks. I'm trying though, believe me.

Giyuu took one, greedy gulp from his bottle. He slicked his hair back with his sweaty hand and looked down in the river. The bridge railing dug in to his back uncomfortably, but he hardly cared. He could see his reflection ripple on the water bellow and it showed him just why he was drinking. He had lost everything. Why was he even alive? He didn't know. He only knew the bottle in his hand and the guilt in his heart. His left shoe had fallen and drifted down the river. If he squinted enough, Giyuu could still see it stuck on some reeds a few meters away from him. His right shoe was dangling on his foot like Giyuu was dangling on the bridge's edge. He knew that if he fell he would drown. But why did that sound tempting to him? He couldn't leave just yet. He had things to do, even if it hurt.
That's why he drank. He drank to forget, he drank to remember, why else?

-Still drinking, tomioka-san?" A voice as clear as the night sounded somewhere behind Giyuu. The man shut his eyes in a feeble attempt to tune it out, but it was useless. The mucky water bellow him called to him once more, if he jumped now, he wouldn't have to feel the pain again.

-You can't just ignore me." The voice of her.. of Shinobu... He couldn't. He just wanted to see her again.

Giyuu took another, long sip from the bottle. He could feel his consciousness drifting, all thanks to the absurd amount of alcohol in his body. It was lulling him to sleep, and he had to fight to keep awake.

-Go away." Giyuu answered roughly.

-You can't run from what you did." She said, her voice was dripping with venom. This wasn't the Shinobu he knew. The Shinobu he knew and loved was dead, she was laying in a coffin, she wasn't there she wasn't there!

-Why can't you leave me alone?" Giyuu whimpered, his eyes stung with salty tears, and his mouth felt dry. He reached for another sip, but not a drop remained in the bottle.

-You killed me, didn't you? Why should I leave you alone?" Her voice was light, it didn't suite the topic of the conversation. Giyuu was desperately trying to surpress sobs at this point. He hiccuped and he felt sick to his stomach, it had to be a delusion, a bad dream. The dead couldn't talk.

He felt a presence and the turned his head to see Shinobu, she was sitting beside him now. She was as beautiful as ever. She wore her white coat and her hair was tied neatly. She smiled at Giyuu but it seemed off. Giyuu shook his head.

-What do you want?" He asked.

-Why, I wanted to see you." She said cheerfully. Giyuu gritted his teeth and turned, his voice boomed with anger, something very, very unlike him.

-Cut the crap. You just said it's my fault you died!" Shinobu giggled. The sound that before was like the sweetest melody to Giyuu's ears was now what haunted him in his nightmares. Shinobu reached out and cupped his cheek with her hand. The touch felt so real and Giyuu only wanted to bask in her warmth. He wanted to believe she was safe and that he'd see her again tomorrow. She'd make him coffee and hed scare off the stray cat that always slept on their porch before she went to work. But the words she spoke reminded him of why that couldn't be.

-But it is your fault! I died in that car crash because you were too drunk to drive and drove us right in to that other car, remember?"

-How are you here?" Giyuu whispered, the question so quiet he doubted anyone could hear it.

-I'm not." She shrugged. -I'm simply a figment of your drunken imagination." She said as she rubbed circles with her thumb on his cheek.

-I'm sorry... I'm so sorry!" Giyuu's voice broke and he tried to reach out and touch Shinobu, but her figure faded away, leaving the man to grasp at the air in search of someone who was no longer there.

-Shinobu?" He called, his voice panicked, like that of a lost child. A bitter laugh bubbled from his chest. Why did things have to be this way? He couldn't understand. The silence mocked him.

He turned once more to the river bellow. It kept on running as if nothing had changed since it first began. Guess that's the point of the saying "all water under the bridge"

Giyuu took a hold of the now empty bottle of booze he had and threw it as far as he could. He couldn't hear the sound of it landing over the water, but he knew it must have landed somewhere.

Giyuu stood up. He took off his jacket and shook off his remaining shoe. It landed somewhere but it doesn't matter where. He didn't need it anymore. He knew that once he stepped off in to the icy river, he wouldn't come back.

And so, he straightened up and glanced at the sky. He could see a part of the moon sticking from under the black clouds that had sealed the sky tonight. It truly was the perfect night to join her.
