Clearing the air

Nora POV

„Hey can I go in and see her?" The door was slightly open and I heard Scarlett's raspy voice right outside. It was early in the morning and I usually sleep at this time but the first night was terrible and this hospital bed is getting on my back.

„Visiting hours start actually in half an hour but I'll pretend as if I didn't see you walk in. Chances are high that she is asleep though. But try your luck."
The nurse replied and I saw how the door handle got pressed down.

„Heyy Champ. How are you doing?" she greeted me as she saw me awake.

„Morning Coach. Could be better considering the circumstances but I'll be fine thanks." I replied as I sat up a bit.

„Are Your eyes getting better? I heard you weren't able to see so good after waking up." she asked and I already knew by that information she had that Lizzie talked to her. Probably right after she left. I forget sometimes that they are best friends.
I wonder if she knows about me and her but something tells me that she has no clue.

„Getting better. Bright lights are still a struggle
But my vision gets clearer as I take the eye drops they gave me."

„Good I'm glad to hear that." she replied as she sat down on the chair next to my bed.

„I was really worried about you y'know." she informed me after we staid silent for a moment.

„I've heard that. Thank you for helping me out that day." I replied and she gave me a gentle smile.

„Oh please. The credit goes on Lizzie as well. We both helped you instantly and she was the one taking care of your head wound." she replied while pointing to her own head.

„But I'd do it in a heartbeat with no hesitation."

„thank you. Really. I wasn't myself that day and everything was just-."

„Hey this was not your fault okay? Nothing of this. You played right. I feel like I pushed you to much and I am sorry for that. Number seven won't bother you again. Ever!" she reassured me and I nod giving her a half smile.

„So You know when you are going back home?"
She asked while wiggling her hand towards the bed I was laying in.

„They keep me here for one more day. After that I can go back home. Finally I hate it here and the food as well." I answered and she laughed lightly.

„If you want I can get you something to eat right away." she offered and I shook my head.

„No I think they have some sort of „food plan" for me. But I'll keep that offer in mind for another day."

„Of course."

„the team misses you by the way. Everyone is worried about what happens next." she told me and I hummed in agreement.

„Me too. They told me that the doc should be here any time soon to tell me what's going on."
I replied and as the time was right the door opened with the doctor walking through.

„Nora. Good to see you up so early. Are you feeling better?" she asked as she started to mess my Puls and I nod.

„Yeah I am getting there." she smiled gently and took a small flash light out of her pocket.

„that's good. Why don't you lean back and close on eye so I can test them quick." I nod and adjusted myself by leaning back. I closed my left eye and she flicked the light over my right. I'm not gonna lie they are sensitive as fuck and it still hurts to see so bright lights.

„Mhm alright. The next eye now." she replied and she did the same procedure on my left eye.

„Your pupils are still reacting a bit extreme.
They're still sensitive aren't they?" she asked knowing the answer already but she wanted to hear it from me too.

„They are yes. Especially with bright lights."
She hummed and wrote down some notes before looking back at me again.

„Am I able to play this basketball season?"
I asked before she could say anything and the way she sighed already told me enough.

„Unfortunately not Nora. It's for the better if you sit this season out. Head injuries are one of the most sensible ones and with the concussion you had effecting your eye sight, it's best if you let yourself heal and rest properly. Let's not forget the blood loss as well. This will effect your whole immune system and it can make you a bit more light headed. So extreme physical exercises are not that recommended for a while." she explained and I can't help but think about the fact that sex falls into this category of „extreme physical exercises".
Well that ruined a lot for me now. Or not.

„How can I get back on track?" I asked and she started to write down things again.

„I'll give you these prescriptions and you should get them at the pharmacy right away when you don't need to be here anymore. They will help to prevent any swelling in your brain. It's important that you finish the whole package. The others are there to help you to regenerate blood a bit quicker and the third ones are just some pain killers. Take the pain killers as you feel like to. The others are a must take."

„Doctor won't This bring along a lot of side effects?" Scarlett asked to my surprise and she nod at her.

„Some side effects will show and some not. Some might be stronger than the others. But they will fade eventually. If it's unbearable get back to me and I'll see what I can do to prescribe you something else."

„Thank you doc."

„Of course. Oh and you need to take the eye drops as well for a while. I'll prescribe you them as well."

„Alright. I'll leave you guys to it. I'll come and look after you in a couple hours. If there is something wrong you know how to call for help."
She reminded me and I smiled softly letting her know that I'll be just fine.

„I know that this might sound weird. Maybe even out of pocket because it's actually not the time for a conversation like this but I need to know what there is between us?" Scarlett asked after we staid silent for a couple of moments. To be honest I wish she wouldn't have said anything at all because being confronted with this just gives me a strange feeling.

„Well." I coughed trying to buy some time cause I have no clue what to say or do.

„I mean. I don't know if there still is? Do want that something is going on between us?"

„I wouldn't mind. I enjoy our time together."
She replied and I hope that I don't blush right now.

„Of course. We both definitely enjoy the sexy time."

„Did you really just call it sexy time?" she laughed at my nick name and I shrugged my shoulders.

„Yeah so?" I answered and her laugh died of slowly.

„What about you? Do you want that something is going on between us?" she asked me and I am actually parted in that answer.

„Yes and no? I mean. I enjoyed it as well don't get me wrong.."

„But?" she asked knowing by the sound of my voice that there is something behind this.

„But I am not really into a relationship. My last has damaged me A LOT and I can't and won't put up with anything that is capable of breaking me again."

„I totally get that. So you just want it to be physical interaction?" she asked trying to clear the air and I nod slowly.

„kinda yeah. It's a good distraction."

„That for sure." she replied with a smirk forming across her lips.

„Can I ask you now something?" She nod at me.

„Did you ever do it with other students as well?
Or was I the i the only one?"

„No. It was only you." she reinsured me and I don't know why but I kinda feel relieved.
