Chapter 20 - Call

My gaze suddenly went to her as I heard her answer.

Moonlight and starry night.

Something flashed to my mind but it couldn't be. I shook my head because I might be thinking wrong. I cleared the lump in my throat and think of another topic.

"M-miss, ka ano ano mo si O-oliver?" I look up at the sky.

Ang peaceful ng langit ngunit kasalungat nito ang kabog ng aking dibdib. Hanep na tanong na 'yan.

"What's with the question?" I can sense the irritation in her voice.

Ay private.

"Nothing. I was wondering if there's something b-between the two of you?"

She didn't answer and drank the canned beer she was holding.

Napabuntong hininga ako at tila nakaramdam ng pagbigat ng aking dibdib. What if suitor niya 'yon? paano kung asawa? luh.

"He's just someone I knew."

Para akong napalitan ng bagong baga dahil sa luwag ng paghinga ko. Mabuti naman kung ganon... Pero.

"B-bakit po kayo nagkiss kung kakilala mo lang siya?" inosente kong tanong.

Hindi niya naman siguro kapatid 'yon or whatsoever. Ilang minutong katahimikan ang bumalot sa aming dalawa, hindi sinagot ang tanong ko. I guess I'm getting comfortable, masyado nang personal ang tanong ko. Kaya hinayaan ko nalang din.

"Can... Can you turn off the fairy lights?"

I was confused causing me to look at her in slow motion. Bakit papatayin madilim kaya.

"You're afraid of the dark, aren't you?" she asked raising one brow.

Umiling ako. Tagal ko nang mag-isang pumupunta rito ngayon pa ba ako matatakot. "Are you?"

"No. I'm asking you to close the lights." umirap ito.

"Why?"

"What why?" nagsisimula ng mairita.

"I mean bakit papatayin? ang ganda kaya, lakas maka aesthetic. It's like we're on our own fairytale."

"Fairytales don't exist, Celeste. Can you close it now?"

"On our-"

"Stop. And close the lights."
