It's another brand new week of diving into the life of Sonia, learning, unlearning and re-learning about life, choices, family and God. Things are about to get really hot. Here is Chapter Six.
=====
Several weeks later, Michael and Sonia's courtship began. They both ensured that they took things slow and allow God to be the Lord in their relationship and that meant, to Michael's surprise, these boundaries included "no kissing" or "abnormal hugging." He had laughed, but soon sobered up when he realized she meant it. Georgina kept a distance from Sonia. This bothered the latter at first, but she had to let her be for the sake of peace.
Right before the final exams of their final semester, Michael officially popped the big question after five months of courtship. He proposed on New Year's Day, signifying a brand new chapter in their lives. Sonia called her mother, who had finally made peace with the relationship and she was happy for her but surely not as happy as she would have been if it was David. The same thing happened in the Rogers' household. It was only Mr. Rogers and his daughter that were thrilled.
The weekend after they dropped their writing pens and said goodbye to University, Michael's parents visited the Moses' household for introduction. The entire ceremony went well without a hitch but nothing passed the eagle eyes of Mrs. Moses. She clearly saw that Mrs. Rogers was not happy and not only that, the latter was snobbish the entire time.
Georgina accepted to be her Maid of honour grudgingly, and she too saw that Mrs. Rogers will be a load of drama to handle. After they had all left for their homes, she sent Sonia a cold message. "I hope you know what you are doing. Stop ruining everyone's life." Sonia smiled and responded with a request that her friend should not worry.
=====
In no time, Sonia and her mother began to shop for what they needed for the big day but she could do only little as the company she had been interning at since her second year promises to give her a job if she passed with distinction or a second class upper. Unknown to Sonia, Mrs. Rogers planned to postpone the wedding pending the time she gets a job, otherwise she planned to use her "gold digging" card. Rolling the plan into motion, Mrs. Rogers invited Sonia to the launching of her new Jewelry line "Julee" and planned to disgrace her so that perhaps, she would finally realise that she is not wanted in the family. What Mrs. Rogers didn't know nor anticipate, is that she has found her match in Sonia.
As planned, Mrs. Rogers introduced her to all that came as her son's fiancé and then added,
"Sonia dear, you know, I have never wanted my son to marry out the parameters of my standard but look what he did everyone."
People laughed briefly.
Mr. Rogers immediately took over.
"You know, when Michael told us about his fiancée, we were disappointed because she has no gold to brig to us. But as I studied this precious child, I found a rare jewel." There was a thunderous applause that followed.
"She is brought up well; good natured; beautiful and hard working. I am proud to announce that she graduated as a Bachelor of Business Administration student with a First Class." Another roar of applause went up in the air and both times, Mrs. Rogers tried very hard to conceal her anger. What was her husband trying to do by putting a nobody on a pedestal? But her husband was not done.
"My dear girl, everything must start somewhere. My ancestors were poor farmers who struck luck later in life through sheer hard work. I relate with you more than you can imagine, you will go far."
Sonia brightened. Her father –in-law to be is a blessing to her, unlike his mean wife.
Mrs. Rogers decided she had had enough and prepared herself to give the last dose of anger,
