By the end of the semester, David was feeling like a third wheel in Michael and Sonia's friendship. It was a really sad reality because he was closest to Sonia before Michael showed up. He was chilling at home reading Rick Warren's "The Purpose driven life" for the sixth time when the doorbell rang and Georgina came in.

"Georgie! What a surprise." He greeted her and gave her the "Christian" hug. She sat down with a small smile on her face. She did not come bearing good news.

"When are you travelling home or do you have an internship programme you I don't know about?"

"I do have an internship programme, but I came just for you."

David's smile disappeared.

"Am I in trouble Georgie?"

She laughed briefly."

"Is everything okay?"

"I will go straight to the point David." She said flatly. "Things cannot continue in this way. You have been friends for a very long time. I know that she's more than a friend and sister to you. David, you will lose her if you don't speak up. I fear she is falling for Michael and you know what is worse right now? Michael is in love with Sonia. I see it in his eyes and how he relates with her."

David sighed and asked, "Why are you telling me all this?"

"Because I know you love Sonia and you desire that she becomes your wife. Do the right thing David! Beat Michael to it!"

David stood up and looked Georgina in the eye,

"Did you not say she's in love with Michael?"

Georgina was beyond frustrated. She wanted to slap sense into her friend's head.

"Stop it David! Just stop it! Stop fooling yourself. You have prayed about this; she has the qualities you desire in a future spouse; your parents love her and her parents love you and even better, you know each other well. Can't you see God ordained this relationship?"

David was pained. He wished he had Michael's boldness and not just a gentle and faithful spirit. He was hurting inside but was afraid to tell Sonia how he really feels about her.

"Georgie, I cannot force Sonia to love me that way. At God's time, it will work out."

Georgina stood up in exasperation. She tried but her friend was too timid and "spiritual" to go after what he wanted. No matter how much virtue he possesses, if he remains silent, another man will surely come and take her away and without struggling.

"I came to tell you David that God won't come down from heaven and ask Sonia to marry you. He might show some people in dreams and visions but obviously and unfortunately for you, Papa has not visited Sonia. He has put love for her in your heart and has done His part, now do yours. Goodbye David, see you next semester."

Georgina did not wait for another minute, she left.

David sat down with his head buried in his hands.

How do I even tell her? She's my best friend and I don't want to lose her.

But he also knew that it was only a matter of time before Michael makes his intentions known to Sonia and the way things look, his best friend might agree without a second thought to him or any other guy.

=====

With each passing day, Sonia's heart yearns for Michael. It was not just about his good looks and mannerisms or that he was a genuine child of God, but she could see her future with him and praying for him had become a natural practice. She had numerous crushes growing up and had turned down many relationship proposals because she felt she was not ready and none of the guys ever met her standard. All of them, except David and Michael. David was another case altogether. She saw in him a confidant and friend for life but not a lover. The thought freaks her out every time her mother or Georgina brought it up.
