CHAPTER TWELVE

Chapter Twelve is one of the most heartbreaking chapters in this book and it reminded me too much of my book "Memories,", an emotionally tasking book to write and read. But life happens, even when we have prayed and got a "go ahead" from God. I really hope and pray that this book shows you that God is very much alive in our pains, our mistakes, and even when it seems the enemy's plans are prospering.

"Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer." - Romans 12:12.

=======

Michael paced around the visitor's area at Gavin Private Hospital. Dr. Gavin had called him about thirty minutes earlier and he had left work rushing there like a mad man. He tried to sit and pray but he could do neither. He gave them up and continued pacing. He was still pacing when his mother and Margaret arrived.

"Bro, what happened?" Margaret asked with terrified eyes.

Michael rubbed his eyes and looked straight at his sister. "Dr. Gavin called and told me some people brought my wife. She was hijacked and apparently it was not far from Mum's office."

"Yes Michael, she came to visit me and we chatted and she said her goodbyes. I am so shocked right now to hear about all this. Is she okay? Is the baby okay?"

Michael wiped his face and looked down at his shoes. As he raised his eyes, he saw Dr. Gavin walk towards them. From the look on the face of the older woman, things do not look good. The deep sadness edged on the face of the beautiful 56 year old in front of him was a deep contrast to her usual "in control" self.

"I... I don't know how to say this." She began with a tight smile.

Michael grabbed his mother's hands and she held gave him a reassuring look.

"We lost the baby."

Margaret's hands went to her mouth as she stifled a scream. She shook her head in denial and could not utter a word. Michael broke down in tears and wept in his mother's arms but the Doctor was not done yet.

"We are trying the best we can but, I need you to pray hard so we don't lose Sonia as well. She was badly assaulted by the hijackers and left for dead. She was barely hanging unto life when she was found and brought here."

Michael broke down on the floor, crying like a child. Margaret got down with him, crying her eyes out. Mrs. Rogers seemed to be the only one who was still in control of her emotions.

"Doctor, what are you saying?"

"We need Michael to sign some documents to approve the surgeries we have to carry out. She sustained some severe lacerations and will need stitches, she also lost a lot of blood and transfusion is necessary. In addition, we need to do X-rays and MRI to know the extent of the damage and check for internal injuries so that we can prescribe treatments and medications."

Michael signed the documents brought to him and pleaded with the doctor to do her best to save his wife. About two hours later, Sonia's family arrived with Mr. Rogers. They were all too distraught to think straight. The corridor became a place of mourning as both families cried and wept over the loss of the baby and Sonia's predicament. Eventually, Dr. Gavin requested they leave but nobody bulged. They all decided to wait it out.

=====

Several hours later, the two families were given updates about Sonia. She suffered a dislocation of her left shoulder, some severe lacerations on her legs, fracture of the tibia and many bruises all over her body and cuts on her face. Dr. Gavin assured them that after surgery, she might take about four months to heal completely. The women were not allowed into Sonia's hospital room because of the terrible state she was in. When the four men entered the room, they broke down into tears and held each other as if to dear life.
