In late April, just before the semester exams began, David decided to put an end to the drama. He went to the Moses' house to fix everything, once and for all. He knocked and entered after a "Yes, come in" by Mrs. Moses. She was in the living room with Sonia. The moment their eyes locked, Sonia stood up to leave.
"Don't leave Sonia. Over ten years of friendship shouldn't go down the drain."
Mrs. Moses sighed and wondered why her daughter was letting such a good guy slip off her hands.
"I will leave you alone to talk." She said and left for her room.
Sonia looked down as her best friend sat beside her.
Tears welled up in her eyes as realization dawned on her that she really missed him. Maybe Michael was bad after all. If not so, why would he come in and mess up her perfect existence? Maybe if she tried hard enough, she could grow to love David in that special way. She felt defeated and at a loss. Her conscience was trying to overpower what she felt as true. Michael is the right man for her. David might have all those great qualities but she knew they might never reach that level of intimacy.
"I'm withdrawing my proposal. I will never force you to love me. I just came to tell you that and please stop avoiding me."
Mrs. Moses came out of her room at that moment, thanking David for his kind heart and that surely her daughter was losing a precious gift and hissed a little to show her displeasure.
David stood up and Sonia did same. She took his left hand and turned to her mother,
"I will see David off."
"Please do that."
They got inside his car and Sonia responded,
"David, I love you with my entire being; as I love myself. You are a wonderful and perfect friend and I know that your wife is out there. I am not her and when you do find her, you will know without a shadow of doubt. Trust me. Let me go."
David smiled.
"I already have Sonia. I just came to wish you the best and please do something about Michael. He bothers me day and night."
Sonia sighed. She did as the elder encouraged and tabled the issue before God. It was hard to do at first without holding unto Michael in her heart but she succeeded. She even prayed that God remove whatever special affection she felt for Michael from her heart. Instead of her heart to wax cold towards him, things got more intense but she surrendered it to God nonetheless. Few weeks later, she thought less of him as she focused back on her life before he came into her life. She was active at church and at school and planed her career, all without both men in them. She was content.
She got her confirmation in bits and pieces later on as God was giving her chunks to digest and finally all the pieces came together. She remembered the first week after her visit to the woman of God, she had a dream where she was at the altar in a wedding dress, the groom was Michael and the person giving her away was none other than David himself. Whoever she chooses, she will not be sinning as she was well within God's design for choosing a life partner.
Her mind came back to the present. David is a good hearted soul and he took the defeat well.
"Thank you David."
"So, should I start calling you Bro. David?"
David gave her his rare look of disapproval and dared her to try it. Sonia laughed out loud and hit his shoulder.
"Yes Sir!"
David left afterwards a very happy young man. He was happy to see her laugh after such a long time. As he drove home, he remembered the conversation he had with Michael the previous night.
