Two weeks later, the big boss arrived at Sonia's office. It was none other than Mrs. Julianna Rogers. The first person she asked to see was her daughter-in-law. Sonia got the call and came through, greeted her former boss and her mother-in-law. In Sonia's mind, she believed the older woman came to embarrass and fire her, but the complete opposite happened. Mrs. Rogers hugged Sonia and smiled. She was dressed in a black iro and buba lace. She had her hair in a stylish bun, with red lipsticks accentuating her natural good looks.

Beautiful outside, but so hideous inside.

"Your bosses couldn't stop talking about you. They told me you are hard -working and wok in a great team of junior managers. The management couldn't increase your salaries because of the financial problems they encountered but that is all going to change."

Sonia was confused. "So you are telling me all this because..." She thought uninterestedly. She looked at her boss for explanation.

"Mrs. Roger junior," The older man began to say. "You have just been promoted to the post of 'Assistant Manager.' Congratulations." The man said proudly and handed her the letter of promotion.

Sonia was seriously shocked.

"Is something wrong dear?" Mrs. Rogers asked.

"I never applied for promotion." She blurted out, looking confused.

"We know Mrs. Sonia. We cherish good and hardworking members of staff." The Older man said with a bright smile.

=====

Before the end of the week, Sonia had been given her own office and a brand new company car – a 2014 BMW 4 series. Her colleagues began to gossip about her, and some who were "friendly" suddenly became hostile towards her, because they claimed she got the promotion because of her mother-in-law. Sonia was under so much pressure to produce great results at work, even in the midst of the suddenly toxic work environment. At some point, she advised herself that she may have to resign.

She was in her office one of the days when she received a hate note from an anonymous source. Sonia informed one of the senior managers and he too was horrified by the turn of events and promised to inform the appointed CEO. Sonia got into her office and cried. If Michael was here now, he would have the right words to comfort her, but now he was no more and David had kept his distance. As she wiped her tears, a knock interrupted her pity party and Caroline walked in.

"Crying again? Sis, what is now?" She asked with concern as she sat down.

Sonia filled her in and also expressed her pain about David's desertion.

"Sister, Uncle David is not avoiding you. He must have a good reason for staying away. And about all the busy bodies in your office, ignore them! They are just jealous. Leave them joor!"

Sonia laughed at her cousin's bold response and smiled.

"That is good sis, please continue to smile like that."

"Thank you Caroline."

"Don't mention it sista mi. By the way, I won't be heading home right away, I have a date!"
