Another school day ended and per custom, Sonia waited for David at their usual chat zone: a wooden bench near the main gate of the university. She looked at her watch frantically. David was thirty minutes late, and he did not even call to update her if he was coming.

"I will box him when he shows up." She said silently and regretted not heading home earlier with Georgina. As she continued to wait, Michael walked up to her.

"Hey Sonia."

"Michael."

"Are you done for the day?" He asked.

"Yeah. I'm waiting for someone."

"Alright then, see you around." Michael left.

Sonia dialed David's number for the seventeenth time and it was still unavailable. She began to feel worried and dialed his mother's number. David was the only child of his wealthy Christian parents, brought up in the love and fear of God. Fortunately for them, he did not depart from the path of righteousness as he grew up.

David's mother answered on the third ring.

"My dear Sonia, how are you?"

"I'm alright Ma. Ma, I can't reach David."

"I am so sorry my dear. I sent him on an errand and he left his phone at home."

"Okay Ma. I was getting worried. Thank you Ma."

"I will tell him you called. Have a nice afternoon."

Sonia got up and grudgingly walked to the bus stop to get a ride home. As she waited, Michael's car stopped abruptly upon noticing her.

"Michael."

"Going somewhere?"

"Home."

"Hop in. I will drop you off and please don't refuse."

Sonia smiled and got inside the car. She sat next to him in front and clicked in the seat belt. As they drove off, Michael was smiling happily to himself.

=====

Through the drive home, Michael found out that Sonia was a third year Business Administration student and he told her his area of study too, which is architecture.

As they were about to reach her house, Sonia decided to ask about his eternal destiny. She asked him about his knowledge about God and he confirmed to her that he was baptized and a lover of Jesus. She sighed with relief and they continued to chat.

Sonia learned that his family owns Rogers Industries and give a lot to charity. She told him about her family too: Her father owns a mini supermarket while her mother teaches English Literature at a secondary school. Her younger brother was preparing for his WAEC examinations that will determine whether he finds admission to university.

Their chat soon ended as they reached the Moses' family house. Sonia thanked him and they exchanged contact numbers before he finally drove off.

Mrs. Moses was removing clothes from the wash line when Sonia was dropped off. Like most mothers, she was prepared to make interrogations.

"Good afternoon Ma."

"Sonia, welcome back. Who was that young man?"

"Oh! That's Michael. I met him last week. He offered to bring me home since David did not show up. When David comes here, don't allow him inside o. I waited for him for too long."

"Sonia, I'm sure he has his reasons. Be careful around these boys but, this one looks responsible."

Sonia wanted to laugh at her mother's words. She made it look like Sonia had so many boys coming in and out of her life.

"Go and plug water for your father to bath, he will soon be home."

"Yes Mum."

"David really cares about you Sonia. Don't be childish and the way I see things, you might end up marrying each other."

"You too Mum! We are just very good friends."

"I hear you. We shall see."

Sonia couldn't contain her laughter and released it. Her mother will be there when she advise David's future wife about his habits and character. There is nothing between them and nothing will ever happen.

=====

David apologized profusely to Sonia when he came back home and she forgave him. if Sonia was tight a tight friend with David, she became closer to Michael. They both just had such a great chemistry that was not deniable. They attended Christian youth gatherings together, shop and sometimes study in the library together. There was a strong bond between them and they both knew it. On one occasion, Sonia was walking with Michael on the university grounds when she spotted David seated with his back towards them.

Sonia motioned for Michael to be silent. He obeyed and she slowly walked up to David and covered his eyes with her hands.

David touched her hands gently and smiled.

"I know these hands like my own. How are you Sonia?"

Sonia took her hands off and scoffed at him.

This revelation about the depth of Sonia and David's relationship made Michael jealous.

"You have become scarce Sonia. What's going on?"

"David, you know it is our last year and I am so busy too. It's even worse with us being in different faculties."

David smiled and replied, "That had never been a problem before. Something else is going on." He said calmly.

"I'm sorry David. It's my fault. I've been keeping her around me ever since I met her. I'm learning so much from Sonia and growing more in the Lord."

"I should join you guys sometimes then." David replied with a smile.

Sonia's face brightened and she grabbed his arm. "David, guess what? Michael's birthday is on the same day as yours." She announced happily. "I feel this is destiny. My friends sharing birth dates and birth year? How cool is that?"

David's face fell. "But Sonia that is also the day of our friendship anniversary."

"It is a great thing David!" Her eyes brightened. "God has added to our number. Georgina will be thrilled. Two girls and two guys."

The two guys did not agree with her but did not voice out their opinion. They allowed her to enjoy the moment.

=====

The guys' birthday finally arrived and the girls took them out for lunch at a three star restaurant. They ate, opened their presents and had a great time. When they were done, they left for David's house to continue the celebration per his parent's permission.

The friends gave thanks to God for their lives and their friendship. Sonia and Georgina presented a cake for them and the celebration continued. The doorbell rang and brought the celebration to a pause. Sonia went to the door and opened the door for Margaret.

"Welcome dear." She greeted the younger woman with a hug.

"Big bro, do you think I wouldn't know? Sonia told me about it." Margaret said triumphantly. She hugged both men and joined the girls to serve the cake.

Georgina winked at Sonia and the latter laughed out loud. The guys didn't get the joke, which was what she wanted. Sonia got enough chocolate icing and began to molest their faces. Margaret and Georgina joined in and soon, they were all looking like naughty preschoolers.

They took memorable pictures and afterwards hit their dance floor with Samsong's "Turn me around."

On the outside, they look fulfilled and happy but as the saying goes, "everything that has a beginning, has an end."
