I haven't felt this feeling since I left.. Feeling helpless. Like somehow this could be all my fault.
I felt the same inside. I felt hurt. But a hurt I was avoiding.
"So, a simple mission failed?" "Well I guess it wasn't as simple to assign me to a more equipped team?""There on Greenhorn.. I thought your skills would be valued!" "What skills do I have?" He ignored my question. "Henry, I didn't want to meet you in these circumstances!" "I nearly died!" He looked at me. "But you're alive?" He turned back around. "Amari?" He questioned. I looked back up at him. "Henry, have you suggested this was a rigged mission?" "None of us said that" "I asked you Henry!"
(A pause)
"Zero died.. This team wasn't ready for a mission like that, Zero worked in tech!" "-My mistake!" He said cutting me off again. He sat quietly, looking out of his window in his chair. "Casper!" The lady barged in. She held the door open waiting for me to leave.
I left Myers office. .. "Casper? Casper, Oh my god!" Jade ran and hugged me.. really tight! "God what the hell happened to you Casper?" "A failed mission!" She started to cry. Heelix walked up to me. "Didn't get a chance to speak with you! What happened to you Casper?" He said that trying to be worried. "Do we need to get you to a medical center?" Heelix asked. "Casper!" Cade walked up to me, hugging me. "What the hell man!""It was a failed mission.""It doesn't matter, it's good that you're even here Casper!" Jade said.
She took me to med center.
[..At Medical] My vision was blurry, but it would be back in just a few hours.
"I never felt that way! So scared to lose you! Besides, your mission with Alice.." Jade was walking back and forth, worried around the room, making my vision even less clear.. "I can't lose you too Casper!" Now she was crying! "Alright, good to go! Take a few of your eye drops, and you'll be fine!" The nurse told me with a fake half smile. "Thank you! Casper?" I stared at the ground. "It doesn't even hurt.. Jade, it doesn't hurt.. I wasn't near the explosion." "Captain probably drugged you.. with pain killers before." "No Jade, I should have died!" The nurse requested for security in her room. I watched her as she hit it on her computer. "Casper? Can we go home?" "I should be dead right now! Not Hailey! NOT ZERO.. Not even Alice.." "Hailey is alive.."
I had a cast.
Life will continue to give me second chances I've never deserved. .. Jade had brought me to her house. We laid down, and watched cartoons all night on the couch. She fell asleep on me, with her hand still in her bowl of skittles. Her favorite candy! I left her on the couch. I needed time to think.
I closed the door behind me.. And just started walking.. Thinking of my past.

"Alice?" A girl from far away stood in front of me. I walked as fast as I could to get to her. It seemed as I got close, she just got further away.. "Henry?" She walked up and hugged me. It was Katherine. Her hair was frizzy. She had no makeup. And she had this pale look on her! She looked pretty but sick.. I never saw her this way.
"What are you doing outside?" She asked me. "Jade is letting me stay with her.. What are you doing out here?" I asked back. "Groceries, down the street.." She told me, looking over at nothing. "This late?" She looked back again, at nothing, pretending to look somewhere. "The mart I work for, is opened 24/7.." Then she asked me did I need something..
We walked to her super market.
"I work here with Pedro.. He's.. at vacation, with his family." I looked around at the products. "Tell me anything." I didn't understand her. "Tell me anything you want here Henry.." She started bagging the groceries, then some things for herself.. A candy bar. Hershey's was her favorite.
She drove me home.
"You leave your car here?" I asked. .. She parked the car. "What are we doing here?" "About to enjoy the sunrise." She stepped out of the car. I watched her sit on a park bench. I joined her and we sat together..
The sky got brighter.
"Why would you sit with me?" She stood there with her dole eyes.
"I killed your sister!" Then she told me. "Henry, people can't forget but they can always forgive.. I don't want to forget you Henry.." "I can't forgive myself.." "I couldn't be angry with you Henry, my sister loved you.."
The sun rose.
She walked back to her car, and I sat there a moment, then I followed .
She took me to her apartment to stay the night. I sat on her couch and I noticed this residue, left on her glass table. I used her bathroom and I stared in the mirror. So many thoughts were going on in my head. Too many. I had to listen to them all.
Katherine stayed in her room for the night. .. A phone call! They needed me down at the force.
