Chapter 28: Countdown

It was 12 at midnight. And it was dark. Grace's team had all the flashlights. They couldn't see. Heelix informed them that there were "others" on the island.

Grace's death was likely a threat to kill them too.

They found a place to sleep and took turns waking up to keep watch to avoid any more surprises. Only with wooden spheres Heelix crafted and Grace's bow and arrow and crossbow could they defend themselves.

Heelix was given no device for this mission to call for help from the League's headquarters.

"So if you had no device then why did you say you were gonna go call in people to come get us?" "I was trying to scare them, Casper.. See if they'd spare us if they did plan on killing us." "Ok if you guys aren't gonna sleep then I'll gladly get some rest!" Amari left it to Heelix and Casper to decide who would stay awake and who would sleep.

"I miss it.." "You miss what? Alice?" "No. I mean yeah I miss Alice but.. the feeling of feeling invincible." "You were never invincible, Casper. You're only human." "But you don't understand it. The feeling of that power.. Feeling no one can knock you down.. No one can touch you.. But it comes with this.. This thing where people think they have to depend on you. Everyone is trusting you'll keep them safe." "Responsibility?" Casper looked over to Heelix and he said wholeheartedly.. "Whatever I did to piss you off Heelix, I'm sorry! And I'm sorry that I failed you or I betrayed your trust!" "Henry-" "Yes, please! Shut the hell up so I can sleep." said Amari. "You don't have to apologize Henry.. It was never your fault."

Amari sat up quickly!

"What is it?" "Thoughts.. Shh.."

"Well maybe it's the fucking monkeys planning they're attack on us!" Casper joked."That's not funny. I thought I heard something.."

They slept while still keeping watch.

[7 am]
"Shit! Get the HELL UP Heelix IT WAS YOUR WATCH!"

Heelix had fallen asleep for six hours.

"No! What the hell? Where's our crossbow.. and bow and arrows?" Amari panicked, running her hands through the grass. "Shit." Heelix said to himself disappointed. "No shit!" Amari said back. "Might've been the monkeys." Casper joked again.

That was enough for Amari to get up and leave..

"Where are you going?" Heelix asked her. "I'm looking for our only salvation!" She yelled at him.

"I'm kind of hungry, do you wanna go by the beach?" Casper asked, in hopes Heelix was just as hungry. "No. It's best we don't split up." Heelix followed after Amari and so did hungry Casper.

"So we lost our weapons. Now how are we gonna fight off the scary hidden island people looking to kill us? I mean are they even looking for us? We've been alive for HOURS and all they did was take our weapons."

"There.. By that tree we can find shelter and we can gather food here.." Heelix tried to take the lead again. "So what we're just gonna hide? How about WE hunt THEM! How about we make them scared!" Casper said in Heelix's face.

He ignored.

"No more hunting by the beach, it's too dangerous. They already saw us there.. Now let's gather food.. Any berries you see will be fine. None are poisonous." "Are you kidding?" Casper walked off frustrated.

But he wandered off.

Amari and Heelix went back to collecting berries. They had already warned Casper to stay together.

Heelix went to find Casper sitting on a rock by a pond. "Look Casper, this could be our last days." "-One! We only have one left remember?" "We all need to stay together. We have to work together." Heelix reassured Casper they would not have to fight.
