Chapter 40: "How does it feel to know he let you go without a fight?"
"Like maybe he never loved me after all."
I woke up with the sound of my phone alarm. It made me want to throw it away as I still felt so sleepy. Eyes closed, I reached for it and turned off the alarm. I slowly opened my eyes and the first thing I did was to check for messages. And suddenly, my sleepiness vanished as I realized that I wouldn't receive any morning messages from him.
Brushing my hair away from my face, I got up to take a shower and dress up for work. There were tons of things to do today, and I couldn't afford to be late. As soon as I was done preparing, I sauntered to the kitchen to have breakfast, but again I froze when I didn't see any food on the table. No hot chocolate. No cinnamon bread. Nada.
"I'm not so hungry anyway."
I went through my routine: Visited all the branches of my flower shop. Attended a couple of meetings. My day had been pretty hectic. I had just finished doing some work when I got a call from my parents and asked me to drop by home to have dinner with them.
"I'm home, mom!"
She gave me a hug and a peck on a kiss. "You're just right on time. Dinner's ready." She looked past me. And I just knew who she was expecting to see. "Where's Chester? I didn't call him anymore because I thought he'd pick you up."
"Why would you think that he'd pick me up?" I went to the dining area and found my dad there. "Hi, dad." I kissed his cheek and took a seat.
"Chester always picks you up after work because you still don't how to drive."
I sighed. "I'll start learning."
"You should call Chester. We can wait for him," dad said.
I put some food on my plate. "He's not coming."
My parents exchanged glances. "What do you mean he's not coming?" mom asked. "May dinner meeting ba siya?"
I shrugged my shoulders. "Maybe."
She sighed. "Nagkatampuhan na naman ba kayong dalawa?"
"No." I started eating. "This is good."
"I thought you two had a fight again. Invite him this weekend. Pauwi na rin ang lolo Camilo mo from The States."
I stopped. "He's not coming."
"Why not? Is he too busy?"
"He's not coming because we've broken up," I answered casually.
Both of them turned quiet. Mom looked shocked. Dad just looked at me with concern in his eyes.
"Let's enjoy our dinner," I said.
The next few days, I went through my routine like nothing happened. Truth be told, I was too busy to even think about other things.
"Noodles. Great," I muttered.
I got home late and was too hungry to call for a delivery. Unfortunately, I still don't know how to cook. Thus, I had no choice but to settle for a cup noodle. It's either that or go to bed, hungry.
"I should really learn how to cook." I shook my head as I waited for it to be cooked. "This is not so bad, Claire. You can survive with cup noodles."
I clacked my tongue as I wasn't satisfied with my food. "I should really learn how to cook. But cooking is not really for me. Great, Claire. Now you're talking to yourself."
