Chapter 51: "The saddest thing about our story is that we could have made it work."

Ako na naman. Bakit ako na naman, Claire? 

What did he exactly mean by that? I don't understand. I know I shouldn't be concerned anymore. Thinking about him won't do my heart any good. However, his words that day really disturbed me. Could there be something that I overlooked?

The pain in his eyes was so clear that I felt it. I was even absolutely certain that he was just holding back his tears. 

But why should he be hurt? He's no longer in love with me. He told me so himself. Wasn't that the reason we parted ways to begin with? So, what triggered his reaction? 

I sighed and massaged my forehead. Honestly, I've had sleepless nights since that day. 

"Claire?" I blinked and turned to Selene "Which one is prettier? I can't decide between these two dresses for Cassidy," she said, showing me two dresses.

"For what ba?"

"Well, the twins are invited to their classmate's birthday party. And I can't decide which dress to choose for Cassidy. And well, your cousin isn't much of a help when it comes to stuff like this," she said, rolling her eyes cutely at kuya Clyde.

The latter just smirked and turned to their son. "Ate Cassidy will look beautiful no matter what she wears, right, buddy?"

Little Clyron made some sounds like he was agreeing to his dad. "Dada! Dada!"

Kuya chuckled and give him kisses on his chubby cheeks. "See, boo? Our son agrees with me. My little boy is so smart, isn't he?"

Selene sighed. "Nagkampihan na naman kayong mag-ama. Anyway, boo, ikaw ang bahala sa outfit ni Caden."

"Got it, boo."

That made Selene smile. Then she turned to me and asked, "So? What do you think?"

I squinted my eyes and checked over the two dresses. "I'll go for the pink butterfly tutu tulle dress. So princess-ish!"

Her face lit up. "It is, isn't it! I gotta show this to her!" she exclaimed and ran towards the stairs eagerly.

"She seems so thrilled," I uttered.

"I sometimes think that she sees our children as her dolls. Adorable."

My brows rose and turned to him. He sounded so whipped, and it really amazed me seeing him so in love with his wife.

Who would've thought that the flower boy of Imperial university would be so in love and enjoy being a father and a husband?

Watching their happy family never fails to put a smile on my face. Kuya and Selene are a living proof that true love exists. 

I'm so happy for them. It's just that this time, there's a bit of envy in my heart.

Just like them, Chester and I used to be so in love that we even planned our future together. That was how certain we are of our love. Never did it cross my mind that it would come to an end.

Ever since he came back, there were so many scenarios and questions in my head. 

If we got married after my graduation like we had originally planned, we'd probably have our children to love, play with, and spoil. 

If we indeed got married early, would we be happy together forever like we envisioned our future to be? Wouldn't he fall out of love?

"Kuya Clyde, can you be honest with me?"
