Jimin can't get up. Not because he doesn't want to, but because he physically feels like he can't. His body feels heavy and hot, despite his skin prickling with goosebumps and shivers occasionally running through his bones. Now, he can admit that he is sick.
Last night his dad made him soup and he went to sleep at around 6pm and only just woke up at noon. He's never slept for so long and he still feels exhausted. He can vaguely remember waking up for a few seconds while his dad checked his temperature and sometimes his pulse while he was asleep. Unfortunately for Jimin, he wasn't dead yet.
He wills himself to sit up. The room spins and he squeezes his eyes shut for a second. When he opens them, his vision is blotchy and his head begins throbbing. He takes a deep breath and falls into a coughing fit. It's so bad that he finds himself doubling over while coughing. It feels like he can't breathe due to all the mucus in his throat and the fact that his nose is congested makes things even worse.
"Hey, how are you feeling?" Jisung cooes, walking into his son's room with a cup of tea and a concerned smile.
Jimin clears his throat. "I feel worse. All I did was not wear a jacket for a few hours and I'm this sick? It doesn't make any sense." He grumbles.
His father sits down beside him, handing him the tea. "Well, you don't take vitamins, you barely eat healthy, and you barely shower. No wonder you got sick."
Jimin lets out an offended scoff. "I shower."
"When you feel like it, yes."
Jimin was about rebuttal when he caught a wiff of his dad's scent. It was stronger and sweeter than usual. He probably would've been able to smell him before he even entered the room if it weren't for his congested nose. But he can smell him close up and it smells like he's in heat, which is weird because his father hadn't been in heat in years. Not since his mother was alive. He lost his mate and because of that, his body sensed that there was no need to go into heat anymore.
"You're in heat." He states but it comes out like a question.
His dad pushes the tea cup closer to him to get him to take it. Jimin sighs and reluctantly does, taking a sip of it. "I haven't been in heat in a while. It was a surprise to wake up to, that's for sure. But it may be because of the mating season."
"But this didn't happen last year or the year before?"
"These last few years, I didn't have a mate. But I guess that being around Jaewon so much probably triggered it. That, and because it's also the mating season." His dad tries to explain, though not exactly knowing himself either.
Jimin, for some reason, grew upset. He's always seen his dad as his mother's mate and vice versa. Part of him just doesn't want to accept that his dad can move on and find another mate. He doesn't want an alpha step-dad. His mom is not replaceable. She will always be the only alpha Jimin will ever love.
"Anyway, I have to go to work tonight since I switched my shift with my co-worker. And because I don't want you to be alone by yourself, I asked Jeongguk to stay with you and monitor your temperature." His dad says with a smile.
Jimin's frown deepens. "I don't need a babysitter. I'm fine."
His dad rolls his eyes. "Sure you are. But I don't want you to be by yourself. I'm worried because your temperature hasn't dropped yet."
Jimin mimics him, rolling his eyes. "Well, I'm worried about you. You picked up a night shift while in heat? What if something happens?"
Sensing his son's worry (even if Jimin doesn't show it, he knows he's worried) Jisung sighs. "I'll be okay. I'll wear Jaewon's scent and I'll be working in his department tonight so he'll make sure I'm okay."
