Christopher's P.O.V
My grandfather made a fool of himself at the charity ball. He thought people would ignore his crude behavior. We could have avoided the twenty million dollars fine by walking away. But, no, he had to curse everyone and their mother. Ceasar had disappeared with Keanu long ago. I guess birds of a feather flock together. I was tired and sleepy. I wanted to go straight to bed when we got home.
I got irritated when my father stopped me. My family wanted to talk to me about Evander. I sighed and said, "Evander and I have decided not to get married. That's all." My grandmother grabbed my arm and asked, "Are you stupid, Chris? People won't let this slide. We have to do something before they start digging up our history. They won't leave us alone if they discover that your great-great-grandmother was a rogue."
I couldn't help but laugh. My grandfather huffed and asked, "What's so funny, Chris? Is our reputation a joke to you? You can't imagine how hard your grandmother and I have worked to build our status." I ran my fingers through my hair in frustration, then stated, "I'm tired of that word, grandfather. Don't I mean anything to you guys? Why do I have to be the sacrificial lamb? Evander won't marry me no matter what we do. So please stop pressuring me and punish Ceasar. It's because of him we are in this mess."
My father slapped me and said, "Don't talk to your grandfather like that." My mother grabbed my father's arm and asked, "What the hell are you doing, Leo? Chris is not a child anymore. You can't control him. And have you all forgotten who made the empire thrive?" My mother hugged me, then uttered, "Your father is sorry, Chris. He won't hit you again." I asked myself why my mother was treating me like a child. I groaned when my mother declared, "You are the only one who can help us, son. You don't have to stay married to Evander. Only till things have died down."
I knew that my parents wouldn't leave me alone until I agreed. It suddenly hit me that I could finally gain the freedom I wanted. I consented to see Evander, then took a shower and went to bed. I wanted to talk to Evander before visiting his house with my parents. The man was never at his office, so I failed to do so. My mother was surprised to see Evander's house. The building looked like a castle. I could see the pool and the garden from outside. My mother squealed when she saw the chandelier in the hall. The interior of the house had a rustic feel to it. My mother pulled me closer and whispered, "I like Lenna's style. It makes me feel at home."
I could sense that the King family had discussed the matter among themselves. Evander's family was friendly and welcoming. My mother and Lenna hit off immediately. Evander wasn't home yet, so we had to wait. I was hoping that he wouldn't deny my parent's offer. My assistant called me to discuss business after a while. I walked into the garden to answer my phone. I frowned when I saw the kiddy pool in the backyard.
I asked myself if Evander had siblings that we hadn't met yet. I walked into the living room after finishing my call. I was surprised to see Evander. The man hid his pheromones well. Evander kept observing me while discussing matters with my parents. I could sense what he was thinking. I agreed with Evander. It was stupid to marry someone you didn't know. My parents did their utmost best to woo Lenna and Julius. I was expecting Evander to accept the proposal. Who would let the chance to gain so many benefits slip by?
I wish I had foreseen what happened next, though. My mother gasped when Evander said, "Let me rephrase that. I will marry Christopher but under one condition. He has to stay at our house till we get divorced." I glared at Evander and asked, "And why can't you live with us?" Evander smirked, then replied, "Because I'm the dominant one." Protesting would be futile, so I accepted my fate. I got up and stated, "I have a meeting at nine. Let's go." Evander's mother smiled and uttered, "We can decorate your room however you want, son." I shook my head and replied, "I'll do it myself. Just tell me when my people can come by with the furniture." Julius chuckled and declared, "Lenna is always home, son. You can visit us whenever you want." I bid everyone farewell then left.
It took me three days to organize my room. My mother cried for two days because I was leaving. Evander and I didn't see each other before the wedding. My parents even bought a wedding suit to please him. It was soon the day of our wedding. My mother wasn't joking when she said she wouldn't invite anyone. A wedding arch and a few chairs were the only things in the garden. Evander looked around when he arrived and asked, "Is your family having money problems, Chris?" I sighed and replied, "We are only taking a few photos. That should convince people that we are a loving couple."
We signed a prenup before the ceremony. I could see that Lenna and Julius weren't pleased with the decorations. I was happy that they didn't say anything. My mother bought simple gold wedding rings. Even the wedding minister was surprised by them. The wedding ceremony was over before I knew it. Ceasar didn't even congratulate me. My parents never punished the golden boy. I was happy that I wouldn't see him that often. We had lunch as a family, then left the premises. I wasn't looking forward to sleeping at Evander's house. The maids were waiting for us at the entrance of the building. They congratulated us, then resumed working. I couldn't wait to get out of my wedding suit.
I went to my room and took a shower. It was hot. I only wore sweatpants to avoid getting sweaty. I sighed while looking out of the window. It was like I was on an uninhabited island. A bird suddenly landed on a tree next to the window. It was eating a worm. I couldn't take my eyes off the beautiful creature. I got startled when Evander said, "What are you looking at, Chris?" A hawk attacked the bird the moment Evander uttered those words. Evander chuckled, then stated, "Eat or be eaten, huh?" I gazed at Evander and asked, "Did you need something?" Evander nodded, then replied, "Yeah. My mother would appreciate it if you share your schedule with her. She wants to know when you will be home for dinner."
I contemplated and uttered, "I'll ask my assistant to contact her. I won't be around much. So tell her not to worry about me." I frowned when Evander said, "I thought you would bitch about it, but you are surprisingly easygoing." I sighed and declared, "I'm a grown man, Evander. Why would I make your mother's life difficult?" I took a step back when Evander traced my abbs with his fingertips. I grabbed Evander's hand and asked, "What are you doing?" Evander smirked and replied, "I'm just wondering why you agreed to marry me. You were hellbent on humiliating me the last time we met."
I smiled and said, "I need some time away from my parents to settle some things. Marrying you was the only way I could reach my goal. Don't worry. I won't bother you. You can do whatever you want. We are not truly married anyway." Evander stared into my eyes and said, "We agree to stay out of each other's way, then?" I nodded, then said, "Yes, of course." Evander chuckled and stated, "You are more mysterious than I thought, Chris. I feel like we will get along well. I'm going out to celebrate our marriage. Don't wait up for me."
Evander laughed when I said, "Why would I wait for someone like you?" I felt lonely after Evander left. I sat on the bed and pondered about the day. I knew my parents wouldn't stop bothering me, but I was now at least far away from them. I took a nap, then went downstairs to have dinner. I was the only one at the dinner table. A maid smiled and stated, "Mr. and Mrs. King went to a party, sir. They will stay at a hotel tonight." I nodded and finished my meal. My mother called me late at night. She greeted me and said, "Check the news, son." I grabbed the remote control and turned on the tv.
I smiled when I saw our wedding photos. It seemed like it was a hot topic. I got thirsty after a while. I decided to fetch a bottle of water. The maids were already asleep. The bottle almost slipped out of my hand when Evander walked into the kitchen. He reeked of omega pheromones. There were three different scents on him. Evander grinned, then said, "Sorry, honey. The omegas were too cute to ignore." I stroked Evander's head, then stared into his eyes. I smiled and stated, "It's okay, sweetheart. I always knew you had no self-control." Evander scowled at me. I ran out of the room before Evander could retort. I shook my head when Evander yelled, "My day will come, Christopher Eckhart. You'll see!"
