Hi guys, sorry for the late update. I have been battling with my health for a while now. Things got worse a month ago. My legs started swelling, and I couldn't breathe. I got admitted and had to take things slow. Don't worry. I will finish the story no matter what. Chris's family will be back in the next installment. So enjoy the drama. Stay safe, everyone, and until soon.

Christopher's P.O.V

Evander was a changed man. In the months I had observed him, I had noticed that he barely looked at others. We occasionally went on dates. Evander always made sure that I enjoyed myself. He was a true gentleman whenever we were together. We still lived apart. I was planning to move back to the mansion after the birth of our child. Which, fortunately, would be soon. My great-grandparents were still around. They never told me how they were planning to save the empire. I let things be.

It was Friday. My obstetrician suddenly called me in for a checkup. I was tired and didn't feel like visiting the hospital alone. I decided to call Evander. He answered his phone immediately. Evander greeted me, then asked, "Do you need something, Chris? Syl went to buy some things for me. He can deliver the stuff you need to your office." I sighed and replied, "My obstetrician called me. He wants to see me now. Can you join me? It seems like it's serious." Van uttered, "I'm on my way," then cut off the phone. I tried to do some work while waiting for Van but was too tired to concentrate. I dozed off without realizing it. I got startled when Evander kissed my cheek. He stroked my head and said, "It's time to go. I asked Duncan to pack some clothes and toiletries for you. Who knows why the doctor summoned you."

Evander held my hand during the ride to the hospital. He helped me out of the car when we arrived. I was shocked to hear that the baby was coming earlier than expected and that my blood pressure was high. I got admitted to the hospital. Maxim cried when he saw me lying in a hospital bed. He cheered up when he heard that he could visit me every day. My in-laws stayed at the hospital with me too. My mother-in-law Lenna had learned how to knit. She kept herself busy knitting animals for the children's ward. Julius took care of Maxim when Van was at work. A week soon flew by. Maxim had made some friends at the hospital. He regularly went to the playground to play with the kids.

I was getting bored. I tried to catch up on work, but Evander stopped me from tiring myself out. My blood pressure was still high, and he didn't want me to worsen the situation. It was Wednesday, and the weather was awful. Maxim had fallen asleep next to me on the bed. Julius left the room to get us some coffee and snacks. Maxim whimpered when lightning struck a tree near the hospital. I stroked his head and said, "It's alright, sweetheart. We are safe." As if on cue, the door opened, and Evander walked into the room. He looked gorgeous in his burgundy three-piece suit. Evander kissed his mother's cheek and asked, "Did you guys have dinner yet?"

Lenna shook her head and replied, "Your father went to the cafeteria to buy us drinks and snacks. He will be back soon." Van immediately ordered one of the bodyguards to assist his father. Maxim slowly opened his eyes when he heard his father's voice. He slid off the bed, then hugged Evander's leg. Van took off his suit jacket, then picked up Maxim and kissed his head. Evander smiled at me and asked, "What did the doctor say about today's results?" I sighed and replied, "Well, the same old stuff. He told me the baby is due any day now."

Evander kissed me and stated, "We better believe him. Take things slow from now on." I huffed and declared, "That's easy for you to say. You're not the one trapped in this bed." Evander laughed, then uttered, "It will be over soon, darling. I promise." Julius returned to the room with bags full of food. He had met Syl on his way to the elevator. Julius fixed Maxim's hair and said, "A boy was standing by the door. When I asked the boy who he was looking for, he replied, Maxim. He said his name was Kayden. Do you know him, baby boy?"

Maxim squealed and yelled, "Yes, Grandpa! I met Kayden at the playground. He is a good boy." The door slowly opened, and a little boy walked into the room. The boy smiled and declared, "Good evening, everyone. I'm Kayden. I'm here to see Maxim." Kayden seemed to be a few years older than Maxim. He was an alpha, so he had a good build. Lenna smiled at the boy and asked, "Where are your parents, child?" Kayden gazed at the door and stated, "They are standing outside, ma'am."

Lenna opened the door and uttered, "Please, come in. We don't want your child to feel uncomfortable." Kayden's parents tried to control themselves when they recognized us. Julius stopped Kayden's father from apologizing for disturbing us. He said that kids deserved to be free. Maxim greeted Kayden and asked, "Are you leaving the hospital, Kayden?" Kayden nodded. Maxim grasped Kayden's hands and said, "I'm glad you are feeling better, my friend. Don't go jumping from trees anymore. See you soon." Kayden grabbed a drawing and stated, "Here, I made this for you. The colors of the flowers match the colors of your eyes and hair. Thank you for playing with me, Maxim. No one would talk to me because I was older than them, but you did." I gazed at Evander to see his reaction. My mate was staring intently at Kayden and his parents. I chuckled when I saw how sexy he looked.

Maxim gasped when he saw the beautiful drawing. He hugged Kayden and said, "Thank you, Kayden. I will cherish it till the end of time." Kayden's father grabbed his son's hand and declared, "It has stopped raining. We better leave now before the weather worsens. It was nice meeting you all. Have a great night, everyone." Maxim handed the drawing to his father after our guests left. He giggled and uttered, "Can you write today's date and Kayden's name on it, Daddy? I will frame it and hang it in my room when I get home." Julius chuckled while stroking Maxim's head. He winked at Evander and stated, "He is just like you, Van. You started attracting boys and girls at a young age too."

Evander sighed, then replied, "I'll be damned if I let some foolish alpha woo my son." Everyone began laughing. I decided to take a shower after having dinner with my family. Evander accompanied me. I suddenly felt dizzy. Van caught me before I hit the floor. He knocked on the door and yelled, "Call the doctor, Mom!" I was suddenly on a stretcher. I lost consciousness while they were moving me. I woke up in an operating room. My stomach was already flat. The wound made it hard for me to move. I wanted to know where my child was. I pushed the nurse call button, but no one responded. I got off the bed and walked out of the room. I knew my wound had opened, but I didn't care. The front of my hospital gown got wet from the blood. Evander suddenly grabbed me from behind and asked, "Where are you going in this state, love?" I tried to push Van away, but I lost all my strength.

Evander hugged me tightly and said, "I'm sorry for leaving you alone, Chris. The baby stopped breathing after birth, but he is fine now. You were still unconscious, so I decided to concentrate on our newborn. Come on, let's go back. You can see our son after the doctor has examined you." Evander carried me to the operating room. He started yelling at the nurses for being negligent. Van stayed with me while the nurses treated my wound and cleaned me up.

I began crying when I saw my son. Lenna was busy rocking the baby to sleep. The child looked exactly like his father. Maxim hugged me and said, "He is so cute, papa." My mother-in-law handed me the baby and asked, "Have you guys thought of a name for him, Chris?" I gazed at Evander, then replied, "Yes, Mother. The child's name will be Achilles King." Julius kissed the baby's head and uttered, "It's a fitting name for the child. He will be as powerful as Achilles in the future."
