*** Forty-Four ***

Moira and Lance arrived early the following morning. They had both pushed themselves hard in order to reach us as fast as possible.

I was extremely appreciative of Moira's efforts. Upon touching her, my unstable vibrations were immediately soothed and my sight adjusted to normal physical sight.

It felt as if I could breathe without difficulty and the energetic work became a blur of images not worth remembering. All I needed right now was Moira's special connection, her cinnamon scent in my nostrils, her warm scales under my hands.

I stood there, hugging her until Connor cleared his throat, stating that if it was alright by me, they wished to proceed with the travelling of the day.

Turning back to him, I asked him if Habieb and I could go ahead on the Huracan. I was not feeling up to riding and they understood, giving in to the idea that we could be trusted to fly ahead and find a good spot for the evening.

Both Huracan were tired and we took it easy on them, estimating how far the horses could travel today.

We found a good grazing spot with a deep pool of fresh water that was protected by overhanging rocks.

Both Huracan drank deeply and I saw for the first time that Moira had lost a lot of weight. Concerned, I traced her ribs that were showing prominently under her scales.

*You are losing weight* I told her, watching her thin neck as she turned her head to look at me. *Am I working you too hard?* I wanted to know, seeing Habieb watching us as well.

Lance made a comment and I turned to Habieb to translate for me.

*He is upset that Moira bears your burdens with you* Habieb told me. *He says that she suffers severely when you do the Cosmic Work.*

*I know that you help me, thank you. But I will try to do more on my own* I told her.

Moira scoffed at me, turning to walk away from me. **Did you have a look at yourself lately?** she asked.

Turning back to the water that was losing its ripples, I peered into the pond at my reflection, seeing a thin face looking back at me.

*Have I lost so much weight since leaving the Castle?* I wanted to know from Habieb.

*Yes* he confirmed. *Reif is concerned about your weight- and appetite-loss since we left Glyden.*

Lance and Moira left to find something to hunt. Habieb asked me to drink more water while he made a comfortable area ready for me to rest.

The pond was quite deep and I dug a seep next to it, stripping my dirty clothes before taking a make-shift bath in the tepid water that siphoned through to the seep.

Habieb thought it a brilliant idea and quickly had a bath ready for himself. After our bath, we rinsed our clothes, spreading it out to dry on the grass.

Only after all this work did I give in to exhaustion, curling up on the warm grass to bask in the late afternoon sun that still reached this area . . .

A blanket covered my naked form when next I woke up from a deep, hypnotic sleep. It was somewhere in the early morning hours as I lay there, quietly listening to the night noises. The moons had set already, the stars that announced the day lay near the horizon.
