With Ragghwaart being paranoid about Raman still regaining his strength after his long hibernation, our travel time was extended to a few days. We were not pressurised for time and took it easy, stopping regularly, sleeping over at the Cavern in the Mountains and then one night out in the rugged wilderness before reaching Floverne.
It was an uncomfortable reception we experienced from the Elfes. These were the first 'other' strangers that were arriving into their totally new world.
Samual felt let down, for there was no instant bonding between him and the people of his own kind. Even the two remaining Floverne Riders came over as unfriendly towards him and Habieb.
Habieb's dark skin made an immediate distinction between the Elfes and the new Riders.
Ragghwaart tried to ignore it, taking us all to the quarters that had been set aside for the Riders.
As we had arrived in the early afternoon, Samual asked me when he could meet his Huracan. He had known him a long time and knew that his friend knew he was here and was waiting for him.
We were aware that not all the Huracan had stayed in hibernation and that some of them had been awake for quite a while.
I asked Ragghwaart if we could see whether we could get the two to come together.
Ragghwaart was a bit apprehensive. This would be the test he had been boasting about to everyone. Would it indeed be possible for a Huracan to recognise the Soul-Spirit of his Rider in another body?
With our stiff reception, he decided that we could just as well go and show the 'old farts' that we were not wrong. And maybe, if we were successful, they might just change their attitudes. Huracan was not just for Elfes any longer.
We quickly made our way over to the clearing near the cliffs where we had been working from. Here I stationed Samual in the middle of the clearing, telling him to think about his Huracan, calling the animal to him with his mind.
Samual was a quiet person. He did not have a lot to say, and when he did, it was usually of the utmost importance. I had not yet tried Telepathic communication with him, but suspected that he was a good candidate.
We did not have long to wait before a dark green Huracan arrived, not flying as I had expected, but slinking through the bushes, not really wanting to show itself, as if it was shy.
Samual called softly to the animal, calling it 'Yarod', on which the Huracan came out of the forest, exposing its whole body.
For a second it looked as if the beast was going to attack, but after the pounce, it stopped an inch from Samual that had stood his ground.
"Hi, Yarod. It is me, Samual. Do you remember me?" Samual asked the Huracan, who gingerly sniffed at Samual's outstretched hand.
Samual suddenly smiled, stroking the Huracan's nose, gently caressing its neck, working down to its chest, before gently embracing the animal, giving it a tender hug.
Yarod closed his eyes, allowing this to happen. Both Elf and Huracan stood like that for a few minutes. Just standing there, embracing, basking in each other's auras.
Then Samual turned back to me, his hand still on his beast and talked to me in the Telepathic way.
*He remembers me. I remember my life from before, through my connection with him. It is hard . . . and wonderful. Thank you, Han, for bringing us back together.*
