** Twenty-Four ***

Hunger woke me in the middle of the night.

My body felt rested and mobility came easily. Strongclaw was not in the room and I sat up, hanging my legs over the edge of the bed.

Ishmay woke up instantly at the movement. He had been sleeping in Reif's chair.

"Are you better?" he wanted to know.

"Yes, thank you. I am starving, though."

Laughing, relieved at my remark, he came around Reif's desk, holding my clothes out for me to dress.

While dressing I connected with Moira.

*Are you still waiting downstairs?*

**Yes. Strongclaw is sleeping under my wing. Are you coming out to me?**

*Yes. I will be there shortly.*

She seemed excited to see me again.

"Can we see Moira first? I need to reassure her that I am truly well, otherwise she will not leave and stay there, starving, too."

"Of course" Ishmay smiled, leading me downstairs, through the Palace foyer and out through one of the double doors.

Not able to contain my excitement either, I rushed down the stairs to embrace my dragon's thick neck.

*I am truly sorry for putting you through all this anxiety. I know it is hard for you to be my Huracan.*

**As hard as it is for you to be my Rider. I make you suffer too** she countered.

*Touché.*

Moira extended one huge foreleg, holding me close to her chest, returning my embrace.

In all our excitement, we had forgotten about Strongclaw. He was suffocating under Moira's leathery wing, complaining loudly to be released.

Moira extended her huge wing and he swooped out from under it, landing on my shoulder.

"You are not going to nip me again, are you?" I asked him.

"No. Moira promised to eat me if I hurt you ever again" he answered.

Moira released me and I stood back a few steps, inspecting her. She looked different than I remembered.

**Do not look so puzzled. You are not the only one that had met up with the Guardians. We both had to undergo the change to stay linked. You simply carried the brunt of their power.**

*It was not a dream then?* I wanted to know from this powerful beast.

**No, Han** she answered sympathetically. **It was not.**

*Okay. I will have to sort this out for myself. You must go back to the forest. I am sure I will be fine now. Go! Find food. You are killing me here.*

Moira shook herself before beating her wings, whipping up loose grass and dust, before tucking them back near her body.

**I will be in touch. Good hunting in the kitchens** she advised, taking the most direct route back to Elfs Wood.

Even after Ishmay had closed the wooden doors behind us, we could still hear her crashing merrily through the brush.

I raided the left-overs of the wild-fowls I had smelt being prepared earlier in the day and ate until my stomach was so uncomfortable I could no longer sit down.
