Ishmay woke my tired body.
"I am sorry, but we do have to join the others for exercise" he apologized.
I sat up in the bed, removed the bandage and had a look at a perfectly good hand. The fingers that had bled last night were still a bit tender, but the open abrasions had healed completely.
Leaving the bloodied bandage on the bed, I stomped into my too small boots, tying the laces, suddenly excited to join the men outside.
"I am sure we can find you a decent pair that fits" Ishmay commented.
Returning his comment with a smile, I quickly scanned the room for the tiny spy, finding him sleeping on the windowsill.
Strongclaw had not ventured to sleep with me again. He must have found another cosy nest to hold up in.
The ancient book was still on the desk, but the newly transcribed manuscript was not there. Reif must have taken it to the council for reading this morning.
Ishmay hurried me through an empty Palace to join the men for exercises outside.
Everyone was already standing to attention in pre-arranged regiments. Every regiment consisted of three to four experienced soldiers and the same amount of youngsters.
Every person was equipped with swords, daggers and bows.
At the moment, Brutus was showing the Elfes the newest techniques of dagger fighting he had learnt from the Bedien.
Habieb was his assistant and Judya was translating into Elfen for the Elfes that did not understand the common human language.
Ishmay handed me an extra Elfen sword, my Bedien dagger and my very own bow and arrows.
Moira suddenly greeted, feeling my excitement flowing through my body at the prospect of fighting.
**Hi, I am ready to join you if you need me. This is so exciting. I am just sorry that I am not yet big enough to fly you around.**
I sent her some loving thoughts as consolation.
We were expected to duplicate Brutus' thrusts and parry with our partner, in this case Ishmay.
It seemed that it was always an older/younger arrangement. We were at the end of the line, having joined late and I disarmed Ishmay effortlessly, using one of the techniques I had learnt from previous lives.
Ishmay was stunned for a few seconds, before asking me to show him the thrust.
I did, allowing him the opportunity to disarm me gracefully.
Brutus noticed, and he worked his way over to us, helping and correcting along the practicing ranks as he went along.
"I see that you have some new tricks up your sleeve, Master Han" he greeted respectfully. "Would you care to share your wisdom with me?"
I laughed happily at him, pushing Ishmay forward to show Brutus how it is done.
The two men faced each other and the rest of the ranks, noticing the stand-off, became silent and interested spectators.
In two thrusts, Ishmay had disarmed Brutus. Brutus was impressed and allowed Ishmay to show him the manoeuvre, before allowing himself to be disarmed.
