I felt ill at ease after the Cosmic download had been completed. Now a conscious part of me, I was able to access all the information if I so wished, without having to search for something specific.
It was already morning. The fire had died down to a few coals trying desperately to stay alive. Habieb was sleeping on the floor where he had succumbed to exhaustion, watching over me in case I should want for anything.
He seemed cold and I stood up, dragging the heavy knitted blanket off the bed, placing it over him.
I was rewarded with a hint of a smile from him as he cuddled into the softness of the fine wool. He did not wake and I gave my attention to what remained of the fire.
There was still dry wood available in the bin next to the fireplace and I placed a piece over the coals, blowing softly on it to ignite the embers into flames. Tending the fire carefully, I fed it until I had a good blaze going.
Tired, but not feeling like going to sleep in case the information worked havoc and the certainty of having nightmares about it, I sat down to last night's cold meal of stiffened porridge and a small loaf of dried out Elfen bread that Habieb had left on the desk.
Taking small bites, forcing the portions down, for I knew the Elfes had limited resources and I did not want to let the food go to waste, I gently tuned in to Moira.
She was in her lair, resting next to Lance. I felt her pride at her chosen partner, her infatuation with him, her trust in him that as long as they are together all would be well.
I felt no love as I knew it between humans, just a silent partnership and commitment to stay together. He could teach her so much and she was willing to learn from him, all these new, exciting things about Huracan life.
She was happy and content at the moment. Although aware of my Cosmic download, she was not too bothered about me and what I had gone through.
Somehow I felt relieved by this, especially that she did not have to bear the brunt of it as she usually shared every small detail with me. This time she had been preoccupied and I was immensely glad for this small token of respite the Cosmos had bestowed on me.
I did not know what I would do if Moira should shun me for changing so much.
It had been a huge issue in my previous life. I was trying hard not to allow the changes to show too much in this one, knowing that the people around me were already thoroughly uncomfortable with the changes that had occurred thus far.
But maybe if Moira could accept me in whatever guise I was at any given moment, just maybe they would, too. I sincerely hoped so.
A soft knock preceded the cautious opening of the door. I watched with attention as Ragghwaart stuck his head through the gap, a sudden smile engulfing his face when he saw me up, dressed and apparently okay.
I indicated him to hush with a finger to my lips, quietly pointing to where Habieb was still sleeping on the floor.
Ragghwaart backed up into the passage and I silently joined him.
"Morning" he whispered and I greeted back with a smile, leading him away from the room in order not to disturb my friend.
"Hi" I greeted him when we were out of earshot.
