I awoke to the sound of a deep rumble, like that of thunder. I knew what was coming. I grabbed ahold of the sleeping mans arm from around my waist and dug my nails in as the house began to shake wildly.

" wh...what's going on" Ed said in a husky morning voice.

" its fucking shaking again" I said.

" mummy!" We heard a muffled squeak come from my bedroom as the floor still shook at a rapid pace.

" James come her baby!" I screamed, I'd almost forgotten I had him here, seeming as he was so quiet and didn't wake me during the night of occasional tremors.

We saw a little body come racing towards us and Ed sat up and pulled me up with him as a little body threw himself on top of us, crying a little.

" Lanie, come here" Ed said as he picked up James and pulled me off the sofa and under the table.

" its safer under here, its still rolling so we have to make sure we can't get hit by anything" Ed spoke as if he'd done this a million times, when really, he had never been in a natural disaster. When the Shaking of the aftershock finally subdued, I opened my eyes saw James and Ed cuddled up together under the table, singing gold rush and I smiled to myself before speaking up.

" James, Ed? do you wanna have a picnic under the table for breakfast?" I asked, trying to make some fun of the situation as James was still a little scared of the earths shaking.

" yeah, that sounds like fun aye James?" Ed said, trying to sound as enthusiastic as possible in his morning mind.

"yes!" James squealed as he wriggled off Eds' lap and banged his head on the table. "owie" he added, rubbing the top of his head.

As Ed and I sat under the table with James, discussing our "picnic" I turned to Ed and nudged his arm.

" when does your flight leave?" I asked, he said it left in the morning, not giving exact time.

" fuck!" Ed said, looking at his watch "It left half an hour ago!" he yelled, startling James and making his eyes go wide.

" Ed! you scared him!" I whispered, looking at him sternly.

" oh sorry mate" he said, patting James on the shoulder, who had already seemed to have forgotten Eds outburst.

"what are you going to do?" I asked, I felt bad because I hadn't woken him up earlier.

"i'll have to see when the next flight to London is, but its okay, I don't have another gig until march 18th, and its February 23rd so were okay" he said as he nudged my arm playfully.

"well, atleast we have some more time together, your keeping me sane!" I said sarcastically, I could've managed on my own but Ed made looking after James easier, seeming as I wasn't used to looking after a toddler all by myself at seventeen.
