I stood at the end of my street, The sun was hitting my back, giving me a warm safe feeling as I inhaled and exhaled deeply. I began to walk towards the house and I prepared myself for a worried Ed and quite possibly, a worried James.

I opened the front door quietly and peeked inside, Ed was sitting at the table with James eating breakfast, and the girls were laying together on the floor, playing with soft toys. I sneaked in and attempted to shut the door quietly, but the wind caught it and it slammed shut, making Ed's head shoot up from his low position, to looking straight into my eyes. "hello?" I said almost questionably, as if I was a stranger. "where the hell have you been!?" Ed said and he stood up, stalking towards me with a hint of anger in his voice. I stood frozen on the spot, unable to move as he came towards me. "i went for a walk....to clear my head" I stated, talking slowly, trying not to sound too suspicious. "don't ever do that again" he said in a low tone, pulling my hips to his and kissing me gently. "im sorry" I whispered, "i needed time, its Sam's death anniversary" I said and Ed's face dropped, compassion filling his tired eyes. "its been a year?" Ed said almost surprised. "yeah" I said bluntly, "i miss him" I added, my voice was stuck on low volume, I could barely speak. "lets have a shower" He said and I nodded, "what about the kids?" I asked and he smirked at me. "MURRAY" he yelled, making me flinch. Murray came in from outside and he practically ran to me and threw his arms around me. " my fucking- lanie don't run away like that" he said and I giggled slightly. "Do you know how worried he was?" he said loudly, pointing to Ed who was blushing. "no?" I said and I looked at Ed with furrowed eyebrows. "he called me at 5am, I had to drag a pregnant woman here at 5am!" he stated and I laughed, "where is she?" I asked and he pointed in the direction of mine and Ed's room, "she crashed in your bed" he chuckled and Ed shrugged at me.

"want coffee?" Ed asked me as I took a seat on the sofa, tickling Stella's toes as she lay on the floor. "yes please" I yawned, truly, I wanted to go back to bed. as I waited for coffee, Murrays wife came and joined me. "morning" I said to her and she rubbed her hands over her face as she yawned, "hi" she mumbled. "tired?" I said and she nodded, she was never one to talk. "yes" she said, "my back aches" she said. "oh, how far along are you now?" I asked, referring to her expanding bump. "five months" she said and I smiled, "congrats" I said and she thanked me before standing up and making her way to the bathroom.

Ed bought me my coffee and sat next to me, putting a warm arm around me as I sipped the hot drink. "You're freezing" he whispered and in nodded, I was freezing. "I know, I am" I said and he rubbed my arm in an effort to make me warmer. "thanks for trying to help, but I think I'll shower" I said and I stood up, placing the empty cup on the counter as I went to retrieve a towel. As I picked out a towel from the linen cupboard, a sudden scream made me jump. "MURRAY!" Grace squealed from the bathroom. Murray came running and he opened the door and he froze. Grace was standing in front of him with blood trailing down her legs, into a pool on the floor. "help" she whispered, tears rolling down her face. "Fuck, Ed!" Murray yelled and Ed ran down the hall and went deathly pale as he saw Grace, her skin red with blood and her eyes filled with fear. after about thirty seconds of us being stunned, my head cleared and I spoke up. "I'll...call an ambulance" I stuttered and I ran to the kitchen and grabbed the phone, dialing the emergency number. As I talked to the operator, Grace cried out in pain and all Ed and Murray could do was try and keep her calm.

I heard sirens becoming louder and louder, and eventually the lights shone through the window as they pulled up outside. I opened the door for them and directed them to the bathroom. I stayed back and checked up on the girls. Iris had fallen asleep so I put a triangular pillow under her and wrapped a blanket around her, Stella was trying to roll over but she was getting frustrated and began to cry. I picked her up and bounced her on my knees, making her giggle and show me her gummy smile, the smile that I loved so much.

The paramedics came out, supporting Grace as they took her to the ambulance. "what's going on?' I asked Ed as he walked past, an arm around Murrays shoulder. He whispered something to Murray and then let go of his shoulder, walking towards me. I stood up with Stella on my hip and he looked at me sadly, with tears in his eyes. "she lost the baby" he said quietly, holding back tears. "oh my.." I said, my voice trailing off in disbelief. "i know" he said and he hugged me, making me feel his sadness. We stood in the center of the living room for a while, before I realized I hadn't seen James for a while. "where's James?" I asked Ed and his face went pale. "fuck I dunno" he said and he pulled away from me, walking out the room. " James!" I heard him yell and there was no answer. We searched the house but there was no sign of him anywhere. "James!" I yelled this time, and I heard the screen door slide open, and footsteps walking towards the living room. James appeared in the doorway, smiling at me. "what mummy?" he asked innocently. "where have you been!?" I said in sheer relief. "outside with my cars" he said, and I sighed "Ed he's here" I said and Ed came into the room and stood there, frozen. he was staring at James and there was sadness in his eyes, as well as confusion and frustration. "are you alright babe?"  I asked him and he shook into focus, looking up at me.

"we need to talk" he said quietly.
