Alexis stared at his wand, the shock keeping her from speaking. Her mind spiralled into a million questions and she tried to quiet it in an attempt to sort this out.

Lucius let out a soft chuckle, the sound once so pleasing to Alexis's ears, now sent a chill through her bones.

"You really believe that I have no idea who you are," Lucius said.

"W-what?" Alexis asked, her wand clutched in her grasp, hanging limply at her side.

"Alexis Newhart. You are awful at playing the long game."

"What are you talking about, Lucius?"

"I was suspicious of you from the start," Lucius went on. "This beautiful girl appears seemingly out of nowhere and keeps appearing. You were always just there. Then when Draco warned us that that murderer was after us, my suspicions grew." He paused as he circled the bed, coming closer to her. "When I saw you kill Glen, I knew it. The way you composed yourself during that murder, the way you wielded your weapon. It all just came together."

Alexis watched his wand carefully, taking into consideration how close the door was to her.

"I was angry at first. I felt used," he said, watching her cautiously. "But I think I suspected it all along. My guard was always up when I was around you, Alexis."

"Why didn't you do something earlier if you were so sure?"

"I suppose a part of me didn't think you capable of killing me." Lucius's face was tense but Alexis noticed the flicker of grief pass over his hardened features. "I thought maybe over time, you did begin to care."

"I did," she said. "I still do."

"Don't lie-"

"I'm not!" Alexis shot back, her stomach twisting with regret and sorrow. "Lucius, I care so much about you. And I hate myself for caring. I struggle to look at my own reflection because I love a goddamn Death Eater." Alexis's gaze blurred. "When you told me my parents' were Death Eaters, I felt lost. I didn't know who I was anymore. I thought killing you would set me back on track. I was wrong."

"Don't try to talk your way out of this," Lucius retorted. "If I had let my guard down, I would be dead right now."

Alexis looked away as tears fell from her eyes. "Yes, you most likely would be. And I would've regretted it for the rest of my life."

"Well, now you won't have too." Lucius lifted his wand higher. "Because I'll kill you first."

"Could you really?" Alexis asked. "Don't pretend like you didn't love me back. Don't try to tell me what I felt wasn't real. We may have met years too late, we may have harmed each other emotionally, but we loved. We loved deeply and fiercely."

"I love Narcissa." The words came out broken, as if shattered when they slipped between his teeth.

Alexis held her chin up high as she wiped her tears on the back on her hand. "Fine. Kill me then."

Lucius's elbow straightened as he held the wand, pointing it directly at Alexis's heart. His hand trembled slightly. Alexis met his eyes as he swallowed hard. His hesitancy bought her enough time.

As she whipped her wand toward him, he flew backwards, hitting the wall and crumbling to the ground. His hand still gripped his wand tightly. Alexis took a step forward to see if he was unconscious, but the bedroom door flew open with a bang before she could approach him.

Narcissa stood in the doorway, her expression filled with grief until she saw her husband hunched on the ground at an awkward angle. Her eyes flickered to Alexis's wand. She held her own, pointing it unsteadily between Lucius and Alexis.

"Narcissa," Lucius said with a grunt, "dear, help me."

Narcissa looked between Lucius and Alexis. "Why were you two in here alone?"

"Narcissa, she's dangerous!" Lucius said as he slowly stood. "She's the Death Eater murderer."

"You brought this girl into our bed. Into our home," Narcissa said barely above a whisper.

"This isn't our home."

"How could you?" Narcissa choked out. "After everything we've been through." She paused as the emotion swelled in her chest. "I thought you changed."

"Narcissa-"

"You deserve each other," she spat out.

"I am your husband-"

"You are nothing." Narcissa's teary eyes lingered on Lucius. "I'm leaving."

"Narcissa, please-" Lucius went to take a step toward his wife, but Alexis stopped him by lifting her wand higher. His eyes fell on Alexis. "You're just going to let her leave?"

Alexis looked at Narcissa, her tears empty and voided of love. Grief struck her delicate features. She looked at the woman she ruined, before turning back to Lucius.

"Why would I care what she does?" Alexis asked.

"She was a supporter of the Dark Lord!" Lucius retorted.

"Do you want me to kill your wife, Lucius?" Alexis asked.

"Of course not-"

"Then let her leave."

"Narcissa, if you leave, she is going to kill me," Lucius said without taking his eyes off Alexis.

Alexis's arm faltered slightly as Narcissa backed out of the room. Alexis heard her soft footsteps walking downstairs.

"I'm not going to kill you," Alexis said.

Lucius's eyes fell to her wand, then back to her face. "Why not? This is the perfect opportunity. Your plan, coming to fruition."

"I made my plan before I knew you." Alexis steadied her arm. "I can't kill you, Lucius." A single tear fell from her eye. "I love you too much. And I will never forgive myself for loving a Death Eater."

Silence filled the room as Lucius took in her words.

"I fucked up in so many ways," Alexis went on. "I hurt everybody I love. I've become the thing I despised the most, someone who murders for their own benefit. I took this too far."

"We've all made mistakes, Alexis," Lucius muttered. "If I can forgive myself for mine, you can forgive yourself for yours."

Alexis shook her head slowly as tears filled her eyes. "I'm a monster," she whispered. "I've ruined your family to avenge parents' who've lied to me my entire life." Alexis smiled, weak and sad. "I'm not even sure what I have to live for after this is all over."

"Alexis," Lucius uttered, her name a desperate plea on his lips.

Alexis stared into Lucius's grey eyes as she slowly turned her wand onto herself. "I'm so sorry," she whispered, tears staining her pale cheeks.

She held her wand to her head before the world turned into chaos.
