Alexis slowly dressed, taking her time to button up her blouse. Her back was to Lucius and he watched her with great interest. She stared into the dying fire, the light of the small flames dancing in her eyes.

"Lucius," she muttered quietly, afraid to look in his direction.

"What is it, darling?" His voice was soft, yet deep. Alexis found a sort of safety within it.

Alexis struggled to speak, unsure of what she wanted to say, worried that her voice might betray her. This moment wouldn't matter to him, he would never remember this. But it would stay with her for the rest of her life and she wanted it to be perfect.

"Look at me, love," Lucius spoke again.

Alexis hesitantly turned to look at him. His brow was wrinkled with concern.

"Is something wrong?" he asked.

"No," Alexis whispered, as if the sound of her voice might shatter this moment. She sat beside him on the couch and he wrapped her hands in his. She looked down at their joined hands. "I just don't want this moment to end." Her voice cracked on the last word.

Lucius lifted her chin up with his index finger and their eyes met. His eyes were confused, yet soft and caring. "Come back tomorrow," he said. "We can have another million moments if we want to."

Alexis bit her lip before speaking. The crackling fire was loud in the room, almost muffling their silent words. "I'm afraid we run out of time."

"Time is ours for the taking, love," Lucius said with a small smile. "We can have as much or as little as we please."

"And if it's not?" Alexis pursed her lips together, trying to keep her expression neutral.

"I'm not going anywhere, my dear Alexis," he promised. "Are you?"

Alexis leaned into his hand as he cupped her cheek. "No. I'm yours. Always."

Alexis looked into Lucius's eyes. She felt like he had more to say and she knew she had more to say. However, she decided that she didn't want to concern him, knowing this version of Lucius will soon be nonexistent. Her heart was full of love as she felt it break simultaneously.

"I have to go," she said softly as his hand fell away from her face.

Lucius nodded. Alexis stood, willing her limbs to move. As she turned to go, Lucius grabbed her wrist, forcing her to look back at him.

"I need you to stay alive," Lucius said, his voice serious.

Alexis looked at him, confusion settling into her features. "What?"

"Whatever you're about to do, please just stay alive. Promise me."

Alexis looked at him for a long moment, understanding that he sensed her impending doom. After what felt like minutes, Alexis spoke.

"I promise."

He let her go reluctantly and Alexis left Malfoy Manor for possibly the last time.

Alexis sat in a small café in Paris. She was further back in time, to a point where she had never met Lucius. She waited, watching patrons enter and leave the café. She had been sitting for hours, worried she got the wrong date, the wrong time, when finally a blonde woman entered the restaurant.

She ordered at the counter in very good french. Alexis waited for the woman to receive her bag of pastries and leave the shop. She stood, walking after her. She followed her into an abandoned alleyway before making her presence known.

"Narcissa Malfoy," Alexis shouted.

Narcissa stopped in her tracks, her back to Alexis. She turned her head slightly, her profile visible to Alexis.

"Are you speaking to me?" Narcissa asked. "I think you have the wrong person."

"I don't," Alexis said. "I know who you are. I'm not here to hurt you, though."

Narcissa turned to fully look at Alexis, eyeing her. Her hand slipped into her pocket, her fingers presumably wrapping around her wand.

"I wouldn't try to attack me if I were you," Alexis warned her.

Narcissa squinted her eyes. "Why not?"

"Because I'm your only chance at protecting your family."

Narcissa stilled at this.

"I'm here to warn you, Narcissa," Alexis went on. "I know you and your family are in hiding and I know that you are considering going back to London."

Narcissa's eyes widened slightly. "How do you know this?"

"It doesn't matter," Alexis answered. "There's somebody looking for you and your family. Somebody who wants to hurt you and your husband because you were Death Eaters. They'll be here in about a week. If you go to London, they will find you and they will destroy your family."

"Are you threatening me?"

Alexis struggled to resist rolling her eyes. This woman was constantly on alert. "No, I'm warning you. Leave Paris and go somewhere far away. For one year. Then, you can go back to London or anywhere else."

"Why for only a year?"

"Because in a year, none of this will matter anymore."

"Why should I trust you?"

"Because I know this person hunting down your family," Alexis explained. "She is dangerous and ruthless. She won't stop at anything. If you love your family, and I know that you do, you will take them and run. Do not tell anybody where you're going, do not trust anybody. She will continue searching for you so you must stay hidden."

Narcissa stared at Alexis for a long time. "Who are you?" she finally asked. When Alexis opened her mouth to speak, Narcissa added: "And don't say it doesn't matter."

Alexis closed her mouth and sighed. "I'm a friend of this girl trying to kill you and your husband. I'm just trying to help."

"Why would you help us?"

"I don't believe you deserve to die for past mistakes," Alexis said. "I believe that you and your husband are capable of change. This girl doesn't see it yet, but she will."

Narcissa lifted her chin slightly, as she peered down her nose at Alexis. "You should pick your friends better."

"You're probably right." There was a pause as they both let this moment sink in.

Narcissa nodded slowly and took a step back. As she did this, the world around Alexis grew fuzzy. The colours around her began to fade, as buildings and objects sputtered in and out of existence.

Alexis looked at Narcissa, who seemed oblivious to their surroundings struggling to remain solid. Narcissa began to fade as the world spun. Alexis felt her feet lift from the ground. She tried to hold onto the side of the building, but it had disappeared along with everything else. She closed her eyes tightly, feeling dizzy and unable to focus on anything because nothing no longer existed.

Eventually, the spinning sensation stopped. Alexis let out a strangled cry as she felt herself hit the ground hard.

She opened her eyes and found herself laying facedown in the grass. Her arm felt bruised as she struggled to push herself up. She tried to withdraw the time-turner from its pouch, however, she extraced a piece of gold instead. She emptied the pouch into her hand. The time-turner was in pieces, shattered beyond recognition.

Confusion and worry clouded her thoughts, as she wondered whether Narcissa took her advice.

She returned the pieces to its pouch before aparating on the spot.
