Chapter 19

So full disclosure this is not my favourite chapter so...I'm sorry!

*3 days later at the station*

"Ahh, only having 1 12 hour shift in between a comfy 2 day off sandwich definitely agrees with me" Dean declared, putting his uniform on in the locker room.

"Oh I am so with you on that!" Travis bellowed, heading straight for the showers.

"Shall we do team drinks after shift today?" Jack asked.

"I personally can't, I drank way too much at the chief's party. Would rather not touch a drop for a little while longer, plus I only have the nanny till 6:30 for Pruey so I'm gonna take a hard pass today, sorry."

"Andy and I are out too, sorry Jack, we've got plans already." Vic replied, determined not to let anything come in the middle of her meeting her newly found niece and nephews.

"I guess never mind then!" Jack receded. "But I'm getting you all at Joe's after the next 3 alarm!"

"Deal." Everyone said in unison.

"19! Line up in 5!" Andy shouted from her office.

"Time to rock and roll." Ben said, running out of the locker room.

"Be there soon, Dad!" Dean yelled after him causing a wave of laughter amongst everyone else.

"Ok 19, today isn't the longest shift, and as we've got another 2 days off after it, I think we'll all take part in a nice little.. group workout!"

"Eurgh" rippled through the group.

"We're going to make it interesting though!" Andy said, smirking and rubbing her hands together.

"How so?" Bishop piped up.

"It's been a while since we've had a little healthy competition, so I think the team that wins will get to allocate the other team's chores for 2 consecutive shifts. It will also give them one free pass each for skipping desk duty which can be used whenever they wish. Your chosen replacement has no choice but to take the desk for that shift. And finally, whoever comes in last place within the losing team, is buying the first round after our next 3 alarm!"

Groans emanated from the team, whilst awaiting their team allocation.

"I think we'll have, Warren, Miller, Cutler and Bishop against Me, Gibson, Hughes and Montgomery!"

"2 girls, Gibson you're going down!" Dean heckled.

"Excuse me?" Andy replied, taking offence. "We," she smiled, "will crush you."

"Yeah we will!" Travis and Vic shouted.

"5 minutes! Get changed and meet back in the barn! Dismissed!"

The team got changed in to their work out gear, wrote their names on the white board and put it in pride of place at the end of the barn. They began a series of tasks that Andy had concocted, longest time hanging from the engine bars, who could make it up and down the stairs holding a 65lb dummy the fastest and who could hold the 'plank' position the longest. She also threw in some hose rolling drills and for fun she thought she'd time how long it took them to climb up the pole as opposed to the usual sliding down it. The last task she decided they would do involved seeing who could do the highest number of burpees in 2 minutes.

"Great work guys, go and hit the showers!" Andy shouted.

"19!" Hughes yelled.

"19!" Everyone replied before running upstairs.

Once she'd gotten changed back in to her uniform, Andy took a picture of the white board and then rubbed it clean so only she knew the scores. She could hear the rest of the team in the beanery preparing food for an early lunch and just as she decided to join them, the sirens went off calling them to a structure fire not too far from the station.
