Chapter 25

AN INDEPENDENT EMPRESS

Lan wangji is tired, rather than tired he was exhausted from all the journey. Going from one place to another and instead of resting in his palaquin, he insisted to finish some of his papers inside while doing his journey. Many ideas have come inside his head and start writing them in a separate paper hopefully he won't forget which issue has been solved and what is not. Another thing is that he misses his wife who was waiting for him inside the palace. Yes he left him alone there when he was sleeping and thankfully wei wuxian is a heavy sleeper or else it would be hard to leave him there when he was awake. He was put of the palace for maybe a week or so that he couldn't count how many days he was been separated from his beloved. Everything felt like an eternity. But those feelings vanished when a report came to him that the empress himself was helping his people to stand up again after the big flood happened. He knew that he can meet his empress and work together. After all he might hate work secretly but he enjoys them so much when he's with his wife even if wei wuxian mess all things on his own and have to rebuild it again he would still enjoy everything.

He arrived to the place where wei wuxian was and he saw his uncle with the guards and other officials while the servants are protecting wei wuxian. Noticing that his uncle was about to slap his wife, he rushed out of the palaquin and catched the hand of lan qiren. "Uncle", lan wangji called as he shield his lover from his (menopaused) uncle.

"Wangji great timing your empress or so called to be one just broke another rule of being an empress and I'm here to educate him why did you shield me wangji?", lan qiren complained but wei wuxian didn't hold back and his anger came to him. "Well first of all I'm sorry for what I'm about to say uncle in law and second listen here you bearded old man I'm a man not a woman, I manage the whole kingdom with my husband, I married your nephew legally and bowed down to the heaven and earth and to our family don't tell me you're just the only family that lan zhan has left with. Don't forget xichen gege and yaoyao gege are also part of the lan clan so means they are also family not you. Third this whole kingdom is also my home now since I govern with lan zhan and we both serve the people and fourth or so I can't count what the hell what are you going to do with all the wood in the palace? Make another new palace ? There's currently 10 manor in the palace with the largest the blue dragon palace where the kings and queens would be resting in. And for your information I'm not even using the money of gusu rather I'm using my own money you know I haven't even touch the money that lan zhan gave me so don't talk as if you knew something your majesty"

Lan qiren went silent but was about to open his mouth but wei wuxian cit him off. "Instead of you guys coming down helping our people so that they can just worry on how to rebuild their home, you people just stay up in the palace doing whatever shit you like covering yourselves with golds and jewels as if that's your life. If you think I'm an empress like the others not that I'm judging the express before me buy I couldn't stand alone seeing my people suffer unlike the corrupt officials here. Oh no need to say their name I know you know who you are"

The official did not showed it to their face but wei wuxian knew they are affected. Lan wangji sighed and look at the guards, "Please lead uncle back to the palace let the empress do his job uncle please rest assure that we will talk in your palace once we got home but right now our people needs us"

Powerless to the king's orders the guards disregard lan qiren's order and forced him to go back to cloud recess while lan wangji, wei wuxian and the others stood there watching lan qiren being dragged away by his own guards. Wei wuxian finally breath in relief and turn around smiling to the people, "let's continue our work everyone, the earlier we work, the earlier and faster we finish everything don't worry about water or food we still got many here". The people heard what wei wuxian said and returned to their work. Wei wuxian was about to move but lan wangji stopped him.

"Allow me airen just sit there and don't exhaust yourself it's bad for the baby", lan wangji said as he took off his coat wrapping around wei wuxian and tied his long sleeves joining his people on clearing all the remaining mess. Mianmian and the others stayed with wei wuxian entertaining him so that he wouldn't get bored. But to the stubbornness of wei wuxian, he couldn't sit still and demanded a scroll and an ink for him to draw onto and start making calligraphy painting while he watch his beloved husband working. The ladies admire their king but only admire him in a distance since wei wixian are looking at them for a bit and smiled warmly.

Time for snacks and the servants finished cooking the food for the people. Wei wuxian stood up, putting down his scroll and brush helping in distributing the food and giving the people a cloth to wipe their sweat with. Wei wuxian went close to lan wangji who was sweating hard, to wipe his sweat away and offer water for him to drink. Wei wuxian was like a maiden in love to see his crush happily accepting his offer and couldn't help but to quietly squeal to his handsome husband. Lan wangji on the other hand notice his husband being all fidgety and admiring him can't keep on smiling, "thank you for your hardwork wei ying". Wei wuxian giggled and wipe off the mud in lan wangji's cheek," oh silly husband of mine I thought we talk about saying thank you and sorry. Are you breaking our own rules hm er gege?~".

Lan wangji smiled and shake his head no. The two had a small conversation then lan wangji returned to his work. By the end of the day, everyone finished their work and allowed to go to their shelter while wei wuxian and Lan wangji returned to cloud recess. The servants who remain to the palace greeted their masters who just came back. Bowing their heads with grace and watch the king and queen walk with elegance (wei wuxian is literally carried by lan wangji going to their room).

The two went inside their room and put wei wuxian down to their bed so he could rest and lan wangji changed his clothes after his bath. Wei wuxian waited his husband to come out and when he did, all wei wuxian did was to ogle at his husband's body (respectfully). After lan wangji change his clothes, he look at wei wuxian who was looking at his with a tint of worries. Lan wangji isn't the type of person to rebel against to his family but lan qiren offended his husband and lan wangji didn't fear anything at all. Lan wangji lift his hand going to wei wuxian's cheek and caress it gently, "don't worry uncle and I will talk. There's no bloodshed nor fight going yo happen so ease your worry my love. I'll come back to your side I promise", lan wangji said assuring his return.

Wei wuxian buy his assurance and nodded quietly. He feared that another conflict will happen between him and his husband's uncle because of his desire to help. Clearly he doesn't have any fault but with his hormones, he couldn't help but to keep on thinking stressing his self. Lan wangji smiled and kissed wei wuxian's forehead then went out. Lan wangji's eyebrows meet each other while going to his uncle's palace. He really do need to confront his uncle to stop all the things that gives wei wuxian stress. Upon arriving to his uncle's palace, lan wangi took a deep breath and knocked on the door. Lan qiren answered at the other side, "come in" and lan wangji come inside then close the door behind him.

Lan wangji looked at his uncle who was writing in his scroll. Lan wangji waited his uncle to finish, watching him write. Lan qiren wasfinally done, putting downhis brush and look at lan wangji.

Lan qiren, "What is it that you wanna talk about wangji?"
