The picture his words have conjured up makes me breathless.
If I were his girlfriend...
Does that mean he does this with her? Jealousy starts to prickle my skin. Or not, but he would do it to me? So... stop, I have too many unnecessary thoughts because of this fair-haired guy, I must distance myself from all this, or I will blurt out something inconvenient.
Vincent meets my eyes, a strange smirk on his lips.
Marina brings me out of the trance of blue eyes, she pulls my wrist, makes me back away.
"Come with me to the store?" She asks.
I instantly get irritated. Why the hell can't she go without me?!
"Why?" Keeping a calm tone, I ask her.
"I need a drink, and you are coming with me." She is burning me with her eyes, resting her hands on her hips, and does not even think about finding out if I want it or not.
I look towards Vincent, who is watching me. I hope he will somehow show me he wants me to stay. He looks away and says nothing. Well, thank you!
I really want to stay and continue "communicating" with him, but I decide to leave because if I stay, I will say something wrong and spoil everything.
"Well, let's go," I reluctantly give in and let my friend drag me away from all sorts of nonsense.
When we return to my house after the store, no one is home.
Marina goes into the living room, and I go to the kitchen and take out two crystal glasses and follow her. She sits on the sofa and watches me while I put the glasses on the table near the sofa and take the bottle out of the bag. Marina forked out and we bought some excellent champagne.
"Vincent is a complete jerk, why are you even talking to him?" she asks, tucking her legs under her.
"Jerk?" I grin, "not so long ago you defended him and the fact that he was a jerk was only my opinion, what happened?"
There is a characteristic pop when I take the cork out of the bottle and I squeal briefly. Marina shudders.
"I spoke with him yesterday, as you suggested." Marina is gaining full lungs of air and I feel sorry for her, but what happened yesterday was solely for her own good.
"And he rejected me." She finally confesses.
I play surprise pouring champagne into glasses.
"Seriously?"
"Yes, he's a total jerk. Said we could only be friends."
"Did he say why? Like: I have a girlfriend so I'm sorry I'm busy."
Marina studies my face, and I look back without showing any ulterior motives.
"Weird." She averts her eyes in thought. "He didn't mention her at all."
"Don't worry about it. He just didn't appreciate you." I offer her a glass.
"You can do whatever you want with him. I don't care what happens to him now." Marina says cheered up, but I feel bitterness in her voice.
"He's finished!" I declare excitedly, feeling anticipation on my tongue.
Marina's eyes light up.
"How will you do it? He's a complete idiot, he won't be able to appreciate someone like you."
"Maybe he'll be hungry for the adventure that I'll bring into his life. He just can't stay away." Confidently I say with a smile.
I clink glasses with Marina, and we laugh to the sound of touching crystal.
