I am sitting in my living room eating lunch. The TV is on and I am watching some true crime drama when a commercial comes on that advertises for a show that will talk about Howard Stark. I pause mid bite and frown.
Shit! I needed to tell Tony the truth about his parents. I look down at my lunch and loose my appetite. Well I needed to ask him about me going to Washington D.C. to see Steve. It was almost time for his second movie to start happening.
"JARVIS, where is Tony?" I ask.
"He is in his lab, Miss Gryffindor." The AI answers me.
"Will you take me there please?"
"Right away Ma'am."
I enter the elevator with my heart beating fast. I always knew I had to tell Tony but I didn't want to do it. I let out a shaky breath. It's better to tell him now than having him find out the way he does in Civil War.
The elevator opens and I put in my code to enter the lab. Sometimes Bruce is in here with Tony but today he is not. I'm not sure if I'm relieved or not about that.
"What is it Gryffindor?" Tony doesn't even look up from where he is working on a new suit.
"Well first I need to ask you about me going to see Steve."
Tony looks up with an eyebrow raised.
"It's almost time for his second movie and I want to prepare him for it."
He sets down the tool in his hand. "Like you prepared me for my third one?"
I roll my eyes. "And I've apologized about that multiple times now. Sorry I didn't like your third movie."
He pulls out his phone. "How long are we talking about?"
"Til the movie starts? I'm not exactly sure."
No, how long do you want to stay in DC?" He shakes his head.
"Oh!" I say in surprise. I hadn't even thought about that. "Um, can I stay a week? I wouldn't mind doing some sightseeing."
Tony rolls his eyes. "I'll let Happy know. You can leave the day after tomorrow."
"Thank you Tony."
"Yeah yeah." He waves his hand at me dismissively but I don't move. "There's something else."
My heart is pounding. This is scarier than fighting Dark Elves.
"Ummm...do you...have you ever heard of Bucky Barnes?" I ask.
Tony is silent for a second. "Steve's friend, the one who died in the war?"
I nod. "Well he didn't die. He survived but Steve doesn't know. That's what the second Captain America movie is about. Him finding out that his friend is still alive."
Tony furrows his brow at me. "If he's alive then why hasn't he contacted Steve? And how did he survive?"
"He had already been injected with the Super Soldier Serum before he fell off the train. That's how he survived. And he was picked up by Hydra." I look down. "He's been with them for the past 70 years, completely brainwashed. He doesn't remember anything of his past."
Tony is quiet for a long minute. "There is something else you're not telling me."
I close my eyes and take a deep breath. "Well, like I said he's been completely brainwashed so he doesn't remember Steve, or who Bucky is. He only knows the Winter Soldier and he has no say in what he does. He has no choice but to follow orders. He doesn't even remember being friends with your father"
I look up at Tony. "Well he's the one...Hydra is who ordered him to..."
I watch as Tony's face clenches as he realizes what I'm trying to say. "What are you trying to say?"
"That the Winter Soldier...is the one who...killed-"
"Don't! Don't you dare say that!" His voice is low. He clenches his fist and then pushes everything that was on the table onto the floor. "You're telling me this NOW?"
"I'm sorry. But this isn't something easy to tell someone."
"Get out!" He yells.
"Tony please. He didn't know.
He points his index finger at me. "GET OUT!"
I can feel the tears beginning to burn my eyes but I hold them back. "Ok." I say softly and I turn around and leave the lab. I don't look back as I walk into the elevator but I can hear him destroying more things. When the doors open to my floor I take two steps out of the elevator before I slump to the ground and cry.
I don't see Tony at all the next day and I'm not surprised. I can't help but think that he may never want to see me again. I may have to move out of the tower before I'm kicked out. I also don't know if he notified Happy about my trip to the capitol or not. I have to find some way to get to Steve. I could always call Natasha I guess since she's in the movie as well. I go ahead and pack anyway just in case.
Sure enough the next day as I'm eating breakfast and planning out what to say to Natasha, Happy comes in.
"Hey, kid. Let's go, the plane's ready. We were supposed to leave five minutes ago." He taps his watch as he tells me.
"We were? Oh shit!" I gulp down the rest of my breakfast and run and grab my luggage while being thankful that I was already dressed.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know. Tony didn't tell me." I pant as I rush back out.
"Well he did seem a little angry when he told me yesterday." Happy grabs my luggage.
"Yeah that would be my fault." I frown and look down while the elevator takes to the bottom floor.
We leave the building and Happy drives me to the airport where he then leads me to a private jet. Despite how Tony and I left, I still can't help but be excited about being in a private jet. It's just me and Happy and the flight attendants.
Might as well enjoy it while I can I think as the jet takes off.
