The guard leads me to a set of double doors. There are two guards standing on the outside and he announces our presence. They open the doors and the guard nods at me as I enter the room. It's not the throne room. There is a huge table in the middle of the room with only one chair behind it. A few bookshelves line the walls behind the table.
"I see the guard finally found you." I hear Odin as he steps down a small set of stairs that lead to a balcony.
"Sorry about that. I was on a tour." I answer him.
"Yes. I heard that it was Loki who was giving the tour." He looks at me quizzically.
I just nod.
"Both of my sons are gods, beings who will live for thousands of years, and yet they both have chosen to fall in love with simple Midgardians." He says.
I blush. "Loki isn't in love with me. I just showed him kindness, that's all."
Odin narrows his one eye at me. "They also say that you know what's going to happen."
I sigh. He's just like Pierce
"And I suppose you want to know what I know."
"I have heard countless prophecies, girl. One more won't change anything." He says, walking to stand next to the table.
"Then what did you want to see me for?" I ask him.
"You know about Hela. Have you told Thor or Loki about her?"
Ah! So that's it.
"Not yet. I could tell them, though I think it would be better to hear the truth from you." I cross my arms in front of my chest.
"Telling them won't stop Ragnarok." Odin says.
I take a bold step forward. "I'm not trying to stop Ragnarok. Maybe delay it a bit. But I least want to save as many people as possible. Your world gets obliterated and you don't care? There's got to be something that can be done to save your people."
Odin lets out a mocking chuckle. "That's the problems with you Midgardians, you always want to save the world."
"And what's wrong with that?" I glare back at him. I know this is pointless. He won't change his mind or do anything to try save his people, but I had to try at least.
"There is everything wrong with that!" He snarls at me. "You are nothing but a child at play. You will learn that not everyone can be saved."
I bristle at that and clench my fists at my side. This is what he wants. He wants me to get mad and lash out at him so he can kick me out of Asgard for good this time. I suck in a deep breath and let it out slowly. I take on a look of calm as I look at him.
"Is that all you wanted?" I ask him. It takes everything in me to keep my voice calm.
Odin waves his hand dismissively at me. "For now."
I nod and turn. No way am I bowing to him.
"You have four more days here, girl." He calls after me.
"And for that I thank you." I call over my shoulder as I exit the room.
I'm mad. I want to punch something. I fucking hate Odin. I walk down the hallway and run my hand through my hair.
Fucking piece of shit I think as I stop. I take a few breaths as I try to calm down. I can feel a headache starting to form, so I rub my temples when I hear my name being called. I look up to the sound of the voice.
"Hi Thor." I say.
Thor comes up next to me. "What are you doing here?"
I let out a huff. "Just got out of a meeting with Odin." I send a murderous glare back down the hall.
"Erm, is everything alright?" Thor asks.
I take a minute to answer. It's not his fault.
"Yeah. Everything is fine." I turn to face him. "Can you show me to the library, please? I think I'm supposed to meet Loki there."
"I can. He didn't show you earlier?" Thor asks.
Oh! Well, shit. Gotta think fast.
I shrug. "He did. But I've never been good with directions so I'm still a little lost."
Thor smiles and nods. "I understand. This place is easy to get turned around."
Oh Thor, you loveable, gullible Golden Retriever!
I follow Thor down the hallways and to the library.
"You know, one time when Loki and I were still small children, we were playing and ended up running down a corridor we had never been down before. Turns out, it was where the Einherjar keeps their weapons."
I look at him to keep him talking. I loved hearing about them as kids.
"There was no one in there at the time so we started looking around. I found a sword and tried to pick it up but ended up loosing my balance. Ended up knocking over all of the weapons."
At this point I laugh and quickly cover my mouth.
"I'm sorry," I try to keep from laughing, "please continue."
Thor just laughs as well. "Well after that we both ran out of there and ended up getting lost. Mother found us in the kitchens hiding behind a large crate of fruit."
I can't stop from laughing. "Was she mad?'
Thor shakes his head. "No. Father was, but I think it got blamed on a rat. I don't think he still knows it was us."
I laugh again and wipe away the tears as we round a corner to see Loki walking down the opposite side of the hallway. He frowns as he sees Thor and I together. My smile slowly fades as well.
"Brother!" Thor says as we draw closer to each other. "I see you found the library easily enough." He laughs at his joke.
Loki just gives him a confused look. "What are you talking about, Thor?"
Thor just claps him on the shoulder. "Nothing, Loki. I'll leave you two to continue your little tour." And with that Thor walks back down the hall.
I turn to look at Loki. "He was telling me about the time when you two found the weapon room and then got lost running from it."
Loki rolls his eyes and I chuckle. "The start of our many adventures."
My smile grows wider. "Oh? Will you tell me some of them?"
Loki looks down at me and a smile slowly spreads across his face. "Of course, Pet."
He turns towards the doors behind us and opens them.
