Alastor ran through the alleyways, the sirens echoing in the distance. Damn it, should've never stolen from Mr. Smith. There was sounds of footsteps behind him, and Alastor hurried his pace.
"Hey! You there! Stop where you are!" Alastor heard the police call, he just ran even faster. He saw a large chain fence ahead, and knew what to do. With the cops close behind he threw himself onto the fence, swiftly climbing over.
"Hey! Get back here!!" The cops ran up to the fence, shaking it in frustration. Alastor turned a corner and ran for a few more blocks before returning home. Inside his house he saw the usual, his father fumbling with something at the table and Truman playing on the carpet.
Alastor sighed with relief that Truman wasn't playing with anything dangerous today. Unlike yesterday, when he came home to Truman playing with a pack of cigarettes. Speak of the devil, Bernard reached into his pocket and lit a cigarette. He started smoking inside, tapping his foot nervously.
Alastor shook his head slightly before going over to Truman. He handed him a bag of chips, and a small apple juice. Truman's face lit up when he saw them. "Tanks Ala! You must've went tough a lot to get tis!" Truman said, he hugged Alastor before starting to eat. "No problem." He responded, Truman was 9 already, and still talked like he was in kinder.
(I know how to spell Truman talks funny.)
"Dad, go smoke outside." Alastor said, glaring at his father. "This is my house, I'll do what I want." Bernard said, continuing to smoke. Alastor grumbled, Truman ran up to him. "Ala! Ala! Take a photo wit me!" Truman held out his small tattered phone. He had to get one after dad forgot to pick him up for the fifth time. The teachers threatened to call CPS if they didn't.
"Ok, ok." Alastor said, he took the phone and held it up. Truman went on his tippy toes to be seen next to him. He held out his hand, making half of a heart. Alastor softly rolled his eyes, then completed the heart.
"There you go." Alastor said, handing the phone back. "Tank you!" Truman said, running off. "Your hairs gotten more orange." Bernard said, staring at Alastor. "I know." He responded, he had tried not to be worried when his hair started to change. But he had only seen the look Bernard got in his eyes, it was only matter of time before he called someone."I made an appointment with a doctor, we should check it out." Too late, he's already called. "I don't need a doctor, it's just hair." Alastor growled, staring at his hands. They were getting warmer... "Or is there something your not telling me?" He said, looking up at his father. That'll shut him up. And it did, Bernard quickly turned away, not speaking.
Alastor left the room, going into his. He sat down on his bed, taking his backpack and opening his books. He'd at least try to do some homework. He took a large book, some assigned reading he had to do. He quickly realized it was a bad idea, the paper burnt as soon as he touched it. He dropped the book and yelled, that hadn't happened before.
Bernard came running in, Truman tried following but he saw him get blocked. They locked eyes and his dad said five words. "Your going to that doctor." Alastor nodded in defeat, he hated any type of doctor. Hospitals connected to police, and he had to many run ins with them. Bernard took the book, which had been sizzling on the ground. He threw it out the window, closing it shortly after.
"Get ready, we're leaving at 5:00." Dad said, leaving the room. He shooed Truman out on the way. At five? He looked to his watch, it was 4:50. When did he schedule the appointment? Doesn't matter, what just happened is the question. I burnt the book? Does this have to do with the hair change? He grabbed his beanie, putting it on.
I don't need everyone seeing on the way, I stand out like a torch. "ALASTOR, GET GOING!" Dad yelled across the house, Alastor quickly put on his shoes and left. It was Fall time but he never really got cold. Especially his hands... Dad had made Truman stay home, Alastor wanted to argue but knew there wasn't any other way.
"Bye Ala!" Truman yelled from the window, he waved goodbye and followed Bernard. It'll be ok, I probably was seeing things. He tried to assure himself, the doctor would confirm or deny his worst fears.
