Instead of lying on my bed, I had my body sitting on top of the pink and white covers of my mattress, my back slouched with my arms resting on my sides. I tried to grab the phone but something stopped me. When I glanced, I spotted silver buckles on each wrist, tied into never-ending chains connected to 9 necks of black silhouettes.
"It's you..." I mumbled to them, "9 chains... 9 souls... now it makes sense.."
They were all eerily silent, staring at me with white-dotted eyes and black tears running down their distorted faces. I'm pretty sure I'm still alive since I could feel my heartbeat through my chest, so I was not dead yet and this must be a dream, a lucid one.
"Welcome to your personal hell," a childish voice spoke from the suddenly open door.
"Cassidy... I knew you'd come around"
She had her arms crossed on her chest, her small body leisurely resting on the doorway while her face was contorted into a furtive smirk. The unnatural sunlight reflected on her black pig-tailed hair with yellow beads. Beyond the door was oddly my kitchen. "How is this my personal hell exactly?" I asked her.
"You're bound to these.... people, you can't leave your bed, and only I get to decide when you could leave" she replied in full confidence and eyed the 9 shadows standing on the edge of my bed. "They're always there, they can't leave, they don't want to leave" The girl then notices one of them that caught her eye, her own visions suddenly filling up with tears.
"Papa..." she mumbled, trying to reach for one of them but no reaction. The father couldn't speak nor react, just stare blankly and this angered her for a few seconds before sighing. "I toned your hell down so we can have a proper conversation (Y/N). You should be thankful I did, if only Chris didn't like you"
"A conversation huh? Then go on, I'm not going anywhere" I lightly tugged the chains bound to my wrists and looked around my old room. "I'm surprised you got every detail of my apartment unit right."
"Arranging this was a headache, I don't even know what this is." Cassidy pointed at my laptop and stared outside my open window. "None of this made sense to me until I saw what was in your head."
"You come from a different time, the future." she flipped the calendar dating to my present time. "Through the ball pit of that forsaken diner because someone chased you for revenge, correct?"
I nodded my head "That's right. Are you here to hear my life story? Because it's not wonderful, regardless of how this apartment looks like". Her expression was relaxed as she sat on my bed, facing me. "No, that's not what I'm here for. I want to ask you something."
"Do you know what a remnant is?"
My eyes went to another side with confusion, was she talking about the definition of it or something else? But judging from her tone, it sounds like an object so I shook my head as a no and she gave me an 'I knew it' look. "A remnant is like molten metal that has a little part of us inside."
"A part of you?"
"Souls. In other words, a melted haunted object. All of the animatronics in the pizzeria has it, their endos. Afton melts a part of them and uses it in his experiment" she explained. I'm not gonna even question how she can talk like an adult. "Has he told you anything about his experiment?"
"No, but Charlie mentioned it before"
"Okay, less explaining for me. Too bad your boyfriend's keeping secrets from you" she kept fiddling with my bedsheets and I deadpanned, not ready to refute her at the moment but something bugged me. "What does this have to do with me?" I questioned.
Her smirk grew into a Cheshire cat grin with a swirl of insanity in her eyes, "You have remnant inside of you" she said. "The reason why your little wound here isn't infected is because of the remnant. You got it from that reeking ball pit". I'm going to be honest, my mind is taking its time to process what she just said. A soul-infested object turned into a liquid which is what William's experimenting on, and a ball pit with the said remnant that has healing properties? Did I get that right?
