"So what's with this bag? You haven't opened it," Neil grabbed a red shopping bag by the handle, noticing how heavy it was.
"William gave it to me last Thursday for the date later," Yes, it's already Sunday, and later will be our supposed date. I had a hard time sleeping yesterday from nervousness honestly because I don't even know what you're supposed to do on a date. All I know is to dress up nicely and go with the flow. I still have a whole 12 hours to prepare for it since he promised to pick me up by 8 PM. The weather's been pleasant lately, light showers still come and go but they're not much of a bother now.
"Then you don't know what's inside it then?"
"Nope, I decided to open it later though, for the sake of surprise," I replied and sipped coffee from my cup. "I'm pretty sure you've caught on already, right?"
Neil helplessly sighed, snatching the remote control of the television from the table, and sat down next to me while holding a coffee mug, "Yeah, I know what's going on between you two. Hickeys don't exactly fade away that quickly," he smirked and I immediately covered my neck with my loose hair. "Better cover it up with some makeup, y'know?"
".... Shit."
"Oh no, what?"
"I don't know how."
He looked at me dumbfoundedly, "Wasn't expecting that, but I know someone who can help. That is if you can come up with a lie or some shit about that," he gestured and reached for the telephone. I nodded anyway with a prepared lie.
Hours later, a knock echoed outside the door, "I was supposed to come here around 3 but I got too excited!!" I heard the familiar squeal from outside. Vanessa jumped in and hugged me tightly while squeezing the air out of my lungs, "AHH! (Y/N)!! I knew Mr. Afton can't stay angry at you! I'm gonna give you the best makeover you can ever think of!"
"Chill out Ness, it's a date, not a wedding," Neil jested.
"—Yet! Do invite me to your wedding though!" The girl nudged my arm with an elbow. Her excitement was over the charts that I even heard her squeal on the telephone earlier. The bag on her shoulder looked bulkier than usual, only to find out it was full of makeup and hair necessities, including accessories like clips and pins.
Vanessa asked if I already have clothes prepared so my mind went to the red bag I'd set aside. I thought it was time to open it so I asked Neil for some scissors to cut through the tape. Once the top was open, my eyes went wide and I picked the objects inside, revealing themselves to be an obsidian-to-ruby colored cocktail dress and a pair of scarlet high-block heels with pearly white gemstones to match. It was probably the prettiest thing I've ever seen. The blonde girl's jaw dropped when she saw them, telling me they were one of the most expensive dresses and shoes in the city. My god William, don't empty your pockets for me.
The girl carried all of our stuff and pushed me towards Neil's bedroom to work her magic she said. While Vanessa was setting up her stuff on the table, she mentioned how she's been wanting to try makeup on me since I never wear any. Since I hardly know anything about the applying-chemicals-to-your-face process, I asked Vanessa to give me some pointers in case I actually have to wear one and she was happy to do so.
After she tied my hair into a bun, she noticed something, "What's with these purple bruises?"
"I burnt myself with a curling iron earlier," I casually replied with a half-shrug. My god, why did he really leave a mark there? Not only one but several. He could've done that right after the date or something, I don't know.
"Oof, that's gotta hurt," she sucked air in between her teeth, "Well not to worry! We'll cover it up with the power of concealer!"
I found myself asking her where she learned how to do makeup. She told me she was self-taught, and thanks to the channel her television showed, she was 'up to the trends'. For a normal citizen in the town, her choice of makeup isn't too bright nor too dark that I can compare it to how teenagers from my timeline look like. Vanessa also mentioned how she wanted to paint my nails as well but she didn't have any polish with her, so she promised to paint them next time. And here I was, hoping that I can still last for a little longer.
