+++++ (Y/N)'s POV +++++
I didn't want to count from 1 to 100 because every second felt like the longest hour of my life. Each surface of these spheres brushed my skin as I fell deeper into the pit. I couldn't open my eyes, but the tears kept going. This was like getting pulled down by an ocean whirlpool, and I hardly cared if it would drown me. Those small wishes of mine had sunk with me. What's the point anyway....?
As if the gravity had turned upside down, I felt the shifts in the timelines, and seconds later, my back touched the familiar net and freezing concrete. I didn't want to get up, and I'd rather not see anything or anyone for I haven't come to terms with what just happened. Yet I have no choice but to accept it and get over it, no matter how challenging it is.
With arms supporting me, I slowly sat up and caught the whiff of dust, mildew, and old paint. My eyelids lifted, and my surroundings were nearly pitch black, only an unnatural beam of yellow lights from the outside world could be seen. I ran my hands across my face, sighing in my palms. It's not that I regret staying in that timeline, but would this pain be lighter if I left early?
"It's no use," I told myself, hearing my weak voice bounce off this abandoned restaurant's walls. The silence of this place was unsettling, who would've thought I'd miss the joyous laughter and music? I miss them already...
My hand reached for my pocket to grab the phone, and the screen glitched for a moment, flashing pixels before it went back to normal.
June 2033
"3 years had passed... No wonder it's so dusty..."
But it wasn't just dust from abandonment. The air had a mixture of concrete powder and stale water. That wasn't the only odd thing here; I couldn't hear cars or people from outside. I doubt this town would be abandoned, they value the land here too much.
I got up on my feet, feeling dizzy and lightheaded because of the timeline shift, and stepped out of the ball pit. I wiped the dust off my clothes and arms, but the smudges of peculiar blood stayed. The flashlight on my phone helped me out and pointing the light toward the emptiness just made me glum, even the tables and boxes were gone. I couldn't stay any longer.
For some reason, they boarded up the windows, but bright beams passed through the gaps. The door was blocked with wooden planks from the other side, and the back door was locked. They sure didn't want anyone entering here anymore. Fortunately, the front door's opening is pull, not push, so I used that advantage to get to the boards.
The fire axe would be useful, but it was nowhere to be found. A crowbar would be useful too, but I doubt there'd be any. So my choice of getting out is kicking these boards to break them and get out. It'd probably take two or three kicks.
And that's what I did.
But only one kick was needed.
The boards broke down quickly, for each plank only needed one. Well, that was easy. I covered my eyes with an arm because of the particles and dust, and what I saw beyond these broken boards was something I didn't expect. It wasn't a road, a sidewalk, or buildings.
But rather an underground site.
"What happened here?" I questioned out loud as I took note of my peculiar environment. Chunks of debris surrounded the pizzeria, and instead of the sky, it was a high concrete ceiling with black electrical wires protruding out of the cracks. Generators were used for the tall construction lights, as well as those light bulbs on a string. A building was built over this abandoned location, and whose bright idea is this?!
"If they got these generators and lights set up, there must be an elevator or a stairway," I was talking to myself again. Yes, I know all of those souls already left or were forced out, so it's just me and my thoughts. Now that they're gone, I can finally think clearly. No one would tell me to die... I'm at peace... a little.
