At last, Michael's birthday arrived and I was getting ready for it. The party starts later in the evening, so I got the chance to sleep longer. My bedhead of hair didn't exactly cooperate with me earlier, and now my scalp hurts from all the pulling, even after a shower. I heard from the news moments ago that starting late afternoon, the rain showers would become stronger and lightning strikes could happen. They advised us to stay inside our houses again, but I'm not gonna listen to them... for now.
I fixed the insides of my bag and plopped back onto the couch, watching an episode of "He-Man & the Masters of the Universe" while Jeremy was preparing a small snack just so we don't gobble up everything at that party. I already drank some pain relievers to ease the piercing sensation of my body every time I moved. I'm just hanging on the edge of the rope at this point.
I was snuggled up underneath the blankets, comfortable in my current spot and I suddenly felt the urge to fall asleep. I took a peek in Jeremy's direction, figuring he might take a while, so I closed my eyes. A little nap is all I need.
But it wasn't just any ordinary nap.
By the time I opened my eyes again, I was in a different place, lying on a distinct bed, breathing familiar air. Peculiar sunrays shone over my eyelids as I pushed myself up, feeling something cold bound around each of my wrists. Ah yes, the creepy silhouettes are staring into the blackest part of my soul again.
"If you called me here, then it must be something urgent."
"Why are you still here? Do you have a death wish?" Cassidy appeared behind the door in her typical crossed arms and legs pose. She decided to sit on the foot of the bed and swung her small legs in the air which doesn't seem to match her words 2 seconds ago.
"No Cass, I do not have a death wish. I just need a little more time," I deadpanned.
"You know I'm not the one who gets to decide that," she placed a hand on her chest and answered. "What you're doing is risky, and Chris knows it too. He's basically panicking every time you go uh... numb? I don't know the word but you get it."
"Then tell him I'm still breathing, that he doesn't need to worry about anything."
The girl pouted after blowing her hair away, "You always say that, and it doesn't help."
"Sorry... Someone worrying about me isn't exactly a usual thought I think and get," I answered, collapsing back into my own unnatural yet cozy bed. I guess it's cozy because I always think it is. "The more people get close to you, the more you get these kinds of questions. Is that right?"
Cassidy blinked, dropping her on-guard shoulders and lied on her stomach with her palms and elbows supporting her head. "Well... Yeah, especially when you're someone who takes chances. I don't think it's a bad thing though. Like, I get it, you're putting others first before yourself but we're.... *sigh*" She didn't continue her thought.
"If you don't make it out in time-"
"Yeah... I know," I smiled.
It's refreshing to see the kid who murdered me slowly warm up, but I guess the score's even. I had thought she may never forgive me, and use this exact room to torture the shit out of me because of revenge. She has the power to directly control my dreams and sink me at will, but instead, she turned my personal hell into a solace zone, except for the black silhouettes. This is the third time I was summoned here, and I have to say that it keeps me from getting homesick. Every detail was perfect, just the way I remembered it. If you ask me, being stuck on my bed without having to do anything sounds like a dream.
Cassidy didn't scold me or anything, she just wanted to know a few things about where I come from. She's a kid, and her high levels of curiosity is only natural. Although the girl couldn't avert her gazes away from the standing silhouettes, she wasn't asking about them. The five had been silent for days, ever since I got discharged from the hospital, yet one of them always manages to make my daily life a living hell like stopping my heart for a few seconds without prior warning or paralyzing me on the spot. Yes, the first one sounds bad, no 'buts' in there.
