Afton's house was a 15-minute walk from the nightclub. There doesn't seem to be anyone awake at the moment, and the lights in his room were turned off. Either Clara left for the night or simply slept the anger through. It is pretty late, so we have to be as quiet as possible to not wake any of the children up, or else they're gonna wonder how I got in the house.
I took out the rings of keys from my pocket and used one of them to open their front door. Even if I was much less of a guest, I didn't really get a chance to return the key. When the three of us made past the doorway, we were suddenly greeted by the lights turning on with appearance of a ginger-haired child and a brown-haired one in the living room.
"Neil?" Michael tilted his head. "And uh... Ms. Valentine?"
"It's the fairy!!" Elizabeth shrieked.
"Shhh... your dad's drunk," I replied, and Elizabeth quickly grabbed onto my leg, giggling. "Je- *ehem* Neil, a little help here?"
We were already at the staircase, and I asked Jeremy for help in this part. Clearly, we had to do this one step at a time so William doesn't fall head-first forward or backward. The siblings followed behind and opened their parents' room for us, along with flipping the light switch. As I guessed, the room was empty and Clara was nowhere to be seen.
Right after we set him on his bed, a tired breath fled from my lips and I just sat on the edge of the mattress. My back hurts, my shoulders hurt, my hands are numb, and I'm having a headache. Both Michael and Elizabeth were staring from outside of his room, but Jeremy seemed to have something in mind as he told them, "Don't worry about your dad, how about we watch some TV? I bet your parents don't let you at this time of night."
"YAY!! I wanna see Labyrinth again!!" Elizabeth screamed and ran back downstairs, followed by Michael.
"I'll give you two a moment," the man said, carefully closing the bedroom door.
William heard the door click, glanced at it, and said some incoherent words because of the pillows. He lied on his stomach and weakly tried to reach for his neck. Well, sleeping with a tight necktie and a vest looks uncomfortable, so I flipped him over and started undoing the black tie.
But William instantly grabbed my wrist. "What do you think you're doing?" he asked, almost in a pissed tone.
"Helping you not accidentally choke yourself while sleeping obviously," I snatched my arm away. "My god, you're hopeless when tipsy, and this is the second time already."
I was done with the tie, all that was left is his vest, but let's say my mental capacity can't do that at the moment. My arms dropped on my crossed lap, then my face buried itself in my palms supporting the head that was ready to detach from the neck. Yes, I'm that tired. I could doze off right here and right now, regardless if I wanted to or not.
I felt a light tap on my back, and when I turned around, William's face was literally a few inches away from mine. I didn't even feel him sit up from his bed. And that's when I noticed something; a faint glow of unnatural violets was below his irises. "You finally took it..." I silently muttered.
He was quiet and unmoving until his hand lousily reached for my glasses, taking them off by the bridge and dropping it on top of the covers. His drunken countenance changed into a comfortable smile like he was daydreaming. This smile grew wider as he gently ran his fingers over my cheek, still maintaining his silence. What is he thinking?
William then squinted as he looked at the ceiling light. He said something along the lines of the room being too bright, which led me to turn off the lights. The outside of the windows was faint glows of the streetlamps and rays of moonlight. Light showers splashed on his windows, giving that cozy evening feeling of rain. I've only visited this room once. I remember a picture standing below the lamp, and now it's gone, replaced by a small wooden tray of keys instead.
