The weeks passed by in a blur. Suddenly it was October. Rose still didn't go to the lab. She agreed but she still hasn't mustered up the courage to walk back into that building. Jim didn't push it, but everytime they took Will he offered to take her.

Rose pulls on her jean jacket over her white shirt that was tucked into her jeans. Her back converse on her feet. She reached up onto one of the shelves in her closet grabbed her orange sunglasses. She tucked them into her hair, letting them rest ontop of her head.

She hauls her back pack onto her shoulder opening her door. She walks into the kitchen stealing a piece of toast off Jeans plate. She grins taking a bite.

"Do you need the car today?" She asks with a mouth full of food.

"Nope, all yours." Rose shoots her a thumbs up, biting the toast and keeping it in her mouth. She waves to Jean grabbing the keys and leaving for school.

She tosses her bag into the backseat. She bites the toast again, wiping the crumbs onto her pants. She turns on the car, letting the radio blare. She back up and heads toward school. She occasionally munched on the toast until it was gone. She wiped her mouth with her sleeve. Her thumbs drummed the beat on the steering wheel.

She turns into school, the car before her doing the same thing. She lets the kids pass in front of her before she finds a parking spot. She takes out the keys putting them in her back pocket.

She grabs out her back but pauses when the music floods her ears. The car tires screeching as the car pulls into school. She slams the door, keeping her eyes trained on the car. They pull in right across from her. The two people get out, one being a guy around her age. He had a curly mullet and a jean jacket on with jeans. The other was a younger girl with red hair. She placed her skateboard on the ground then skated down to the middle school.

She squints at the guy but pulls her eyes away. She tugs on her back pack walking toward school. He looks over at her but says nothing. Nancy and Steve both notice the girl and give her a nod. They too were watching the new kid pull in.

Rose walks over to Nancy staring at the new kid walking away.

"He seems like an ass." Nancy gasps smacking the girl on the shoulder.

"Be nice Rose." She holds her books to her chest. They all begin to walk toward school. Steve walking beside Nancy. Rose and Nancy had 1st period with Johnathan.

"No shes right, he does look like an ass." Steve agrees with the other girl, Nancy shushes him. Rose laughs quietly propping the door open with her foot waiting for the other two to walk it. She keeps her hands dug into her pocket.

Steve kisses Nancy a top the head before saluting goodbye to Rose and walking off to his first class. Rose pretends to gag, bending over. Nancy scoffs hitting her shoulder once again.

"You two are disgustingly cute." Nancy blushes, glancing at the girl then looking away.

"Shut up." She says with a smile rounding the corner of the hallway. Johnathan meets up with them around the corner. He stands beside Rose. The two talking about their art project. They walk into the door, walking straight pass the girl handing out flyers. She handed one to Nancy. Nancy walked back asking for two more.

Rose is shaking her head by the time Nancy tries to hand her one.

"Nope, nuh-uh." Nancy forces on into her hands, giving the other to Johnathan.

"You're both coming to this." She says both while staring right at Rose. Rose faked a smile holding up the orange piece of paper.

"Come and get sheet faced. Really?" She deadpans. "Not happening."

"Yeah no." Johnathan agrees with Rose, shaking his head. Nancy sighs putting hers in one of her notebooks.

"I can't let the two of you sit alone on Halloween. That's just not acceptable."

"Well, you can relax. I'm not going to be alone. I'm going trick or treating with Will." Johnathan defends, giving even more reason to not go to the party.

"All night?"

"Yeah." Nancy looks to Rose, a smile growing on her lips.

"No, no way. You're going to be home by eight, listening to the Talking Heads, and reading Vonnegut or something." She predicts, Rose nods since she could see Johnathns night playing out exactly as she said.

"Sounds like a nice night." Johnathan grins looking back at her. Rose looks between the two still staying quiet. Nancy groans dramatically and turned to Rose.

"What about you? Whats so special that you can't come to a party with your best friend?" Rose pretends to tap her lip in thinking.

"Nothing. I'm just not going to spend my night with a bunch of sweaty drunk teenagers." She grins. Nancy rolls her eyes turning to open her locker. Steve sneaks up from around the corner grabbing the girl. She squeals in surprise hitting his chest.

Rose looks beside her seeing Johnathan turn and walk off. She purses her lips and follows after him not needing to see the couple. She heads to first period not bothering to wait up for Nancy. She sits down in her spot, seeing Johnathan staring off out the window. Nancy walks in a few seconds after smiling at the girl, then taking her seat in front of Rose.

The bell rings and Mrs Johnson begins to talk about the book reading they all were supposed to do in preparation for the essay next week. Rose already read the book, months ago and finished the essay the night before.

The door opens and on walks the Principal and the new guy.

"You must be Mr Hargrove." The old women asks setting down her chalk. New guys says nothing, just glares at her. The principal smiles politely then walks out. "Take a seat beside Mrs Dunne." Roses eyes widen when she says her name. The new kids eyes find her and her takes his seat. He smells of cigarettes.

Rose slightly moves her desk away sitting back with her arms crossed. She only freezes when his smell overwhelms hers.

"Hey sweet face." He whispers in her ear. Her head snaps away, her face morphing into disgust. She rolls her eyes ignoring him.

Out of the corner of her eyes she sees him start to lean over again. She holds up her hand stopping with with a hard glare shot towards him.

"Call me sweet face again and you'll lose your tongue." He only smirks, his tongue peeking out the corner of his mouth.

She was definitely right. Hes an asshole.

The door opened again not many minutes after. The principal walks in.

"Mrs Dunne, come with me please." She furrowed her brows slightly, but grabs her things following him out.

"Someone is here to pick you up." He informs her when they get to the school doors. Her confusion only grows when the doors open and she sees what car is parked out front.

"Thanks." She mumbles making her way to the car. Jim leans against his truck, smoking a cigarette. Once he sees her coming he stomps it on tne ground.

"Cmon, were going to be late." He pushes off the door walking to his side.

"Late for what?"

"Your appointment with the doctor."
