HAPPY NEW MONTH!! ♥️♥️😊😊
Esme scans her friend's hand, the dazzling ring has small silver roses as the band, and a ruby crystal sitting on top.
"Kharis, this is beautiful," Greta gushes admiring the piece of jewelry.
"Thank you," she replies, spreading her fingers, to allow Greta to touch the band.
"And Thana had the impetus to say she's no one's second best. I don't think she was ever on the list!" Esme says with a smile
"God, I have so many questions!" Greta adds, her eyes still glued to the ring
"Excuse me." The ladies turn around to see Ruby standing there, her hands holding each other in front of her.
"Could I have a word with Kharis, please?"
"Oh...of course," Esme says, holding Greta's hand. They give their friend a reassuring nod and smile before heading inside.
Kharis takes a few deep breaths, looking at the wearh in front of her. She received her with a warm embrace yesterday when they arrived, but it could have most likely been due to her son being present.
No, Leonidas said she is the only one he can trust while he is away. However, she can still protect her without actually liking her. Why does this situation prove to be so complicated?
"Do you mind if we go for a walk?" she asks with a small smile. Kharis nods, pushing down her anxiety and following the lady as they head toward the back of the building.
"How are you feeling dear?"
"I am alright. I thank you for your concern."
Ruby nods, "I can tell my presence is yet to give you any comfort. I blame my son for dumping you here without carefully getting you accustomed to staying with me."
"It is alright, My Lady-"
"Please, Ruby or mother," she stops to say, looking at her with hopefulness in her eyes.
Kharis nods, "Of course...Ruby."
Calling another woman mother is not something Kharis thinks she can do, ever since her own passed away.
"I admit, I was taken aback when Kieran told me about you. He has never been one to have feelings of love. Such passion has only been dedicated to his time on the battlefront."
"He goes there quite often."
"He does, and I wish I was a better mother to him. In all honesty, I had lost hope and was sure he would continue to throw his all in nothing but bloodshed, but you came along."
"So, you are not worried, that he chose a human?"
"I do not believe in King Oleander and his rule. All the enemies of the monarchy are my friends."
Kharis nods, a gasp escaping her lips when they get to the beautiful garden at the back of the building. Flowers blooming, grass green and vibrant, fruits fresh and succulent...amazing
"Beautiful isn't it?"
"It is more than beautiful. It is breathtaking. How can such a place exist in this harsh cold?"
Ruby smiles, taking her hand, and guiding her to the bench. "It takes the right amount of dedication, and plants that can withstand the weather. I grow fruits, and flowers because I love them. I am glad you think it is beautiful."
"You did this yourself?"
She nods, smiling wide. Kharis cannot help but return her smile, "I am sure Kieran loves you even more than he enjoys battle."
