CHAPTER FIFTY-NINE

NARRATOR'S POV

​"Ano? Magpe-perform pa rin pala tayo? Kaasar naman!" dismayadong himutok ni Xavier.

​Habang hindi maipinta ang mga mukha nina Cilan at Xavier dahil sa pressure na mag-perform nang walang pasabi, hindi naman mawaglit ang ngiti sa mga labi nina Sloane, Kristoff, at Winter.

​Sa huli, matutuloy pa rin pala ang kanilang binabalak. Talk about lady luck beaming their way.

​The stage crew helped the band members in setting up their instruments. Nagkaroon ng kaunting aberya dahil sobrang bigat ng keyboards, but after roughly four minutes everything was ready for the show.

​"Guys, ano bang kakantahin natin? Ni wala tayong naka-lineup na songs," nag-aalalang tanong ni Cilan.

​Ngumiti nang malapad si Kristoff. "Actually... Sloane, Winter, and I already selected the songs that we will play."

​Napakunot-noo si Xavier. "You did? The three of you did that? Wow, 'di rin naman kayo excited 'no?"

​Nagkatinginan nang makahulugan ang tatlong binata. Ang totoo, bago pa sila bumalik sa kanilang table pagkatapos nilang magbangayan sa pagkuha ng pagkain ay nagkaroon sila ng kasunduan.

Each one of them will choose a song, then the sequence of when their chosen song will be played was settled the old-fashioned way: rock-paper-scissor game.

​Lady luck seemed to have abandoned Winter, as his song will be played first. Sloane got relative success, and this time he'll be playing second. Kristoff hit the lottery jackpot, and they will be playing his song last.

​Winter handed Cilan and Xavier a copy of the song lineup na napagkasundaan nilang tatlo kanina.

​"Hmmm... this is a fairly interesting bunch," komento ni Xavier. "Buti na lang, napag-aralan ko na ang chords ng mga 'to."

​"That's great, Xavier," nakangiting hayag ni Sloane. "How about you, Cilan? Familiar ka ba sa mga kanta?"

​Cilan did not respond immediately, but when he did, his eyes glowed with excitement. "Woah! These are some of my most favorite songs! Of course, kabisado ko ang mga 'to. Ano pang hinihintay natin, magsimula na tayo!"

​"Guys, before we start... can I say something?"
paghingi ng permiso ni Xavier. Sumang-ayon naman ang apat niyang mga kasama. "Pwede bang hindi muna ako mag-second voice? Medyo masama ang timpla ng vocal cords ko ngayon."

​Tumango nang nakangiti si Kristoff. "Don't worry, Xavi. We got you covered. Just give your best with the bass sa stage."

​Nagkanya-kanyang pwesto ang limang performers sa kanilang mga instrumento at microphones, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

​"People of Osiris Ballroom, are you ready for us?" Cilan teased. The audience responded with much enthusiasm. "Tonight, we are ecstatic and grateful to receive the championship trophy for this year's Philippine Dark Intramurals tournament. Allow us to thank everyone by offering three songs to serenade all of you. Up here on stage, to add color and flavor to our celebration will be Xavier, Winter, Sloane, Kristoff, and yours truly. Please give it up for the Fifth Element!"

​Amid the crowd's noise, Sloane smoothly used his drumsticks to mark the start of the presentation. The three other instrumentalists followed suit, completing the melody for the first song that they will be presenting.

​"Let's go guys," Kristoff encouraged his bandmates. "Let's end over championship celebration with a bang!"
