MUSIC TO SNAKES EARS

you leaned against a tree, knees up to your chest as you sketched in your notepad, your earphones in you ear playing your favourite songs.

your feet tapped with the music as you sang along with the lyrics.

you tapped your phone and skipped the song, smiling when you saw the song that started playing.

you didn’t think anyone was near as you sat near the lake, but your voice seemed to attract someone- or something

Ajax was walking past to go to the greenhouse when he felt his snakes move in the opposite direction, his snakes were pretty neat, they never tangled together, so when they all moved to the back of head, he got confused and asked himself what happed.

the boy was too focused to notice the voice singing in the near distance to realize that’s what the snakes wanted.

Ajax’s snakes were bugging him all week, kept trying to get out of his beanie around the same area every afternoon. he never bothered to figure out why, and his ears never tuned in to the beautiful voice that sang before him.

when you sat down on the bench in the lonely quad of the school, the last thing you expected was for snakes to be attracted to your voice and lead their owner to you.

Ajax stood behind you, his hand placed on a pillar he pressed himself up against to hide himself.

he smiled at you, even if you weren’t facing him, he knew it was you. all the stolen glances he took at you in class, all the sweet smile you gave him when you walked by. he knew it was you, he had the sound of your voice imprinted in his ears from every time you spoke

“so that’s what you’re all gushing about, that makes all of us” he whispered to his snakes, slightly shaking his head in amusement at his snake’s behaviour

he felt the pull of his snakes again while walking near the lake again, but his ears focused in this time, hearing the voice that could only belong to you.

he then realised that must be why they’re always trying to get out around here. he didn’t notice you sitting behind the tree the whole week. he didn’t notice the sound of singing in front of him.

he stepped out of the shadow, stepping into the light as he came out from the pillar and quietly walked towards you.

Ajax stared at you longing as he came around to stand in front of you, a smile planted on his lips as he watched you not realise someone was in front of you.

you head was down as you moved your head along with the song playing in your ears as you sang along with it.

after a minute of not looking up at him, Ajax began walking away, not wanting to seem creepy with just watching you.

he knew his snakes were whining at the loss of your voice as he went to his dorm, the big smile never leaving his face.
