     “What?” You chocked on the spit that collected in your throat. In front of you, Ajax held his head down—avoiding your eyed that brimmed with tears. His own eyes matching yours, yet held an empty look that made you question. What happened to your Ajax? The sweet and funny Gorgon who would never hurt your feelings intentionally and now he looked as if he wanted nothing to do with you.

“I lost feelings. I’m sorry, (Y/n). I wish it didn’t have to turn out this way.” He gave you a short glance before walking past you to make his leave out the quad. You turned to watch his back. “Did I do something to make you not love me anymore?” Now, the tears couldn’t stop running down your cheeks. Ajax shook his head, not turnt to face you before finally walking away.

Your lips quivered as you were left alone to dwell in your emotions and sudden heartbreak. Meanwhile, Ajax held his hands in a fist to avoid the tears bubbling in his eyes. He thought this was the right thing to do, that you deserved to be with someone who wasn’t always cautious to goof off in fear setting you to a frozen stoned state.

Ajax knew you deserved better than him, and he couldn’t help but get jealous whenever you were with Kent or Xavier, hell even Tyler because he knew that that with him you wouldn’t have to worry about making the wrong move. To Ajax, breaking up with you was the best possible outcome to solving the issue.

Oh how wrong he was.

The past week for you was one of the worst you’ve ever experienced. Every corner you turned, you made eye contact with the Gorgon who shattered your heart. It was unbearable, especially since your friend group collided so well. Even with their comfort, yours never came as you watched the purple beanie from the corner of your eye.

Unknowing to you, Ajax was feeling the same way. Hurt, burdened but relieved that he wasn’t disappointing you like he thought he was. The sleepless nights he endured due to him tossing and turning, thinking of your tear stained cheeks. The heartbreak etched onto your face made his heart hurt. Deeply.
Your friends noticed the sudden gloominess that followed the two of you. Even becoming worse than Wednesday’s mournful personality.

“You gotta talk to him.” Enid persuaded, slamming the door to your dorm room in exasperation. You only groaned, slamming your head into your bed sheets. The girl marched her way toward you and pulled you up by your shoulders. “He’s miserable, you two have to make up!”

“Why Enid? He’s the one that broke up with me? He’s the one that lost feelings!” As she was about to respond with her own remark, a knock on the door alerted the two of you. You both made a second of eye contact before she sprinted to the door and opened it.

On the other side was Xavier, his smirk made your body tense up. You knew he was up to something no good. As he side stepped to reveal a flash of purple, your breathe hitched and your body crystallized within itself. Enid glanced back to see the bed dipped but with no visible body, she sighed and gave Ajax an encouraging smile before they tugged him into the room and shut it behind him.

“I don’t wanna speak to you.” Your cold tone made the gorgon flinch yet he didn’t protest what you said. Ajax knew he deserved your stoic behavior.

“Trust me, I know but Xavier thought it was time we did.” From your spot, you could see his slouched like state. His face appeared tired, a frown etched onto his face and eyebrow’s scrunched deeply. The bags under his eyes didn’t take long for you to notice.

Revealing yourself to him, his gaze softened as he stared at your figure.

“You look like shit.” He breathed out a laugh at your comment. Ajax nodded and stared down at his fiddling hands.

“Why did you do it?” You asked, feeling the tears bubble up and your face grow hot. He sighed, shaking his head and tilting it up to avoid the tears that threatened to fall.

“I-I was scared.” He caught your head tilt in question from his peripheral vision. “I know i’m not like Xavier, or Tyler or even Kent. I have snakes for hair and I always have to be cautious around you. You don’t deserve that. And I definitely don’t deserve you. So I thought breaking up with you would be best for you. So you can find someone better.”

There was silence, then a scoff, and finally a laugh. Ajax’s head snapped to yours in shock, hearing the joy spill from your laughs.

“I’m sorry-I don’t mean to laugh but Ajax. Why do you think you can make such a decision for me? I love you, and I knew what I was getting into when I became yours. I love you Ajax, snakes and all.” You smiled at him, and his face calmed before he wrapped his arms around you securely.

Several apologies fell from his lips, and all you did was stroke his hair and place a kiss on his beanie.

He was all you needed, snakes and all.
