Lena steps out of the car, her driver closing the door behind her. She's making her way toward the front door when she suddenly hears something. Thinking it may be someone planning on ambushing her before she enters the building, Lena grabs her taser from her belt.
Once Jeff, her driver, had caught back up with her, now armed himself with a sharp multitool, the two walk slowly toward the rustling sound.
Meow
That causes Lena to let her guard down a bit, gesturing for Jeff to put his weapon away. She keeps her taser in her hand as she opens the dumpster with the other, cringing at the smell of it. This time the rustling sounds even closer, and they even see some of the garbage moving around.
She sighs lightly, rolling her sleeves up. Lena hadn't exactly planned on digging through the garbage while choosing her outfit earlier. The young woman reaches in as Jeff walks inside, assumedly calling one of the nearby animal shelters.
After moving some of the trash out of the way, Lena sees a small ball of black fur shivering as it tries to burrow deeper. She gives the creature a small pet, trying to convey that she wasn't going to harm it.
"Ok, buddy, let's get you out of there." She speaks softly as if expecting the kitten to understand what she's saying. Lena picks up the small bundle of fur and holds it close to her body, instantly noticing the smell, but keeps it close nonetheless to help the poor thing warm up a bit.
"Ms. Luthor, I've contacted the local animal shelter and informed them that I'd be on my way soon. Would you like me to take him so you can get to work?"
She isn't entirely sure why, but something possesses Lena to shake her head no. "It's ok, it appears he's already made himself quite comfortable." She tells the man, making her way back into the car.

Lena sends a message to Jess on the way, informing her she would be in a little later than planned, absentminded petting the dirty fur as the kitten purrs in her arm.
She gets out at the front door and Jeff goes to find somewhere to park. Walking in the door doesn't result in nearly as much noise invading her ears as she had anticipated, only hearing calming music. She notices the blonde woman with glasses sitting at the front desk.
"Welcome to National City Animal Center, who's this?" She says brightly, standing up from her desk chair and walking towards Lena.
The raven-haired woman isn't sure whether she was asking for her name or the kittens, so decides to give a neutral response. "My driver called ahead, we found this little one in a dumpster outside my work." As she comes closer Lena is able to read her nametag: Kara
"Ah, ok. The vet will be out to take a look in a moment, but for now, you can just sign these papers, stating that you brought in an animal."

A few days later, after receiving many requests from Jess wanting to "know how the little cutie's doing." Lena takes a trip to the animal shelter once again. She walks through the entrance, noticing that Alex, the vet who looked at the kitten (and, apparently, Kara's sister), was sitting at the front desk.
"Welcome to National City Animal Center, how may I help you?" The redhead greets.
Lena gives a small wave before answering, "I brought a kitten in a couple of days ago, my employees want to know how he's doing." Technically she told the truth, just withholding the fact that she was curious to know how the cuddly creature is as well.
