Two Sides of the Same Coin

Kara groans, her hand slamming down on her blaring alarm clock, causing it to break. She cringes a bit at the sound but ultimately decides the hunk of metal deserved it.

"Attention students, all homeroom classes begin in twenty minutes" The principal announces over the intercom.

The Kryptonian sighs, tossing the now broken alarm clock into the trash. It's moments like these that Kara is glad Alex is her roommate, as opposed to someone who would spread a picture of the broken metal like wildfire throughout the school, perpetuating the idea that she's an alien.

I mean, Kara is an alien, but that doesn't mean she wants everyone and their mother to know about it.

She quickly changes into her school uniform and eats some breakfast before heading to her homeroom class.

"Hey, Kara!" Winn greets her with a sappy grin and a wave. The blonde grins in return before grabbing a seat at their usual table.

Despite all the rumors of her being some dangerous creature from another planet, Winn has remained her friend throughout her three years at the boarding school. He, Alex, and Kelly are all that Kara has had.

Well, Nia seems pretty nice as well. She's a more recent contribution to their little group but has fit in rather well nonetheless. Kara had met Nia on the first day of this year. All the juniors and seniors are asked to help out a new student on their first day, and Kara had been paired with Nia.

Speaking of Nia...

"Greetings, losers." The younger woman states as she takes a seat as well. "Ready to get our group assignments for our final projects?" She asks.

Kara nods as the room continues to fill up with students. "Somewhat, I'm just hoping I get people from our table." She shares, "Or, at the very least someone who doesn't believe all the rumors."

Both of them nod in understanding as Alex and her girlfriend Kelly walk in and join them, the table now at max capacity. "Morning everyone." Kelly says.

They all say good morning back before their teacher starts speaking.

"Hello class, today you will all receive your assignments for your four-person groups. Keep in mind that your presentations are worth 40% of your final grade." Mr. J'onzz goes through his, but Kara doesn't really pay attention until she hears her name,

"Kara Danvers, Nia Nal," The blonde gets an excited grin on her face, at least she'll have Nia! Only two people left... "Barney Fife, and Lena Luthor." She freezes a little as she looks over to Nia. Who even are those two?

Nia leans a bit closer before quietly whispering, "We'll be fine, I know Lena and Brainy from one of my other classes. They're both super smart and nice."

"Didn't the teacher say, Barney?" Kara whispers back, confused.

She nods with a small laugh. "People usually just call him Brainy, because he knows a lot of different things."

They both quiet down as the teacher continues announcing all the groups.

"Now that that's all taken care of, you may all use the rest of this period to meet up with your groups and come up with a plan for your presentations." Mr. J'onzz concludes, and everyone proceeds to scramble around the room to find their groups.

Nia manages to lead Kara to Lena and 'Brainy', who were luckily already seated at the same table. "Any ideas for the project, you two?" Nia asks as she and Kara take a seat next to them.
